And Mamdani has made it click that I don’t hate conservative gloating about what they think is their own view of greater good, because they’re not positing a different greater good they want to work toward at all. They’re celebrating anything that harms anyone else besides them.

I ask myself “would I be mad if a conservative gloated about the opposite thing” when I’m celebrating a politics win (usually yes, obviously). I want to maintain my self-image, and have a reason ready for the “if roles were reversed tho” card that conservatives love to pull.

I think something so refreshing about Mamdani is that he’s never asking us to be outraged; if he gives us something to be mad about, he offers a solution, or gives us something we can do to help. And the rest of the time he’s just happily doing his job and allowing us to share in his joy of service.

But my thing here is that these objectively *aren’t* nightclubs. I get why it’s like at a nightclub. The focus is the music and the bass and the Vibes. You’re not talking; you’re dancing. There’s a place for obscenely loud jams!

One of my personal conspiracy theories is that NYC bars blast really loud music to drive away the rats. No dance floor, just a bar, but the bass is trying to vibrate your organs into the 4th dimension. Always amazed the bartender gets my order right after merely the 5th time I scream it at him.
