The obvious answer here is that the student protest movement was broadly smeared as anti-semitic and aligned with terrorists, and a variety of institutions from government, media and the universities acted as if that smear was true, threatening, suspending, expelling and even deporting students.

I'm in a similar position, but most of my dev time is on review / polish work. I lose a lot less time to context switches now and that feels great; I am also able to do some _actual_ dev now in the time saved.

The markets and media are such easy marks for this guy. Best case scenario here is everything is substantially worse than before; worst case this deal lasts a day or two.
