You can edit mii faces whenever you want so I erased one of Koya's ears. Then I created 'Koya's missing ear' as a separate item. its been turning up in all sorts of cutscenes XD. Today I watched him shake a tree and then get spooked when his ear fell out of it. XD

*the game can't really do antialiasing with transparent edge so its only worth using those brushes on a background colour. the game also smooths pixelated edges anyway (kinda like in acnh). Another thing to note is 'transparency lock' is called 'alpha lock' in the European version.

This is the stylus I'm using. It's just a cheap/standard one for tablets. I recommend drawing with a hard pixel edge and higher contrast colours, then use the bucket tool for pastels at the end. Every object you collect becomes a stamp, which is fun if you don't feel like drawing! :3
