🚸 We’ve submitted evidence to the UK Parliament’s inquiry into the Child Poverty Strategy.
Our message is clear: tackling child poverty requires a rights-based approach.
Child poverty isn’t inevitable; it reflects how systems are designed.

So on this anniversary it's important that we continue to fight for the human rights protections we have - and the ones people in Northern Ireland are still waiting for. 5/5
But the rights journey isn't finished in Northern Ireland - despite provision for it in the peace agreement, there still is no Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland, which could bring economic, social, and cultural rights into domestic legislation in Northern Ireland. 4/5
The Human Rights Act 1998 brought our rights home for all of us in the UK - but in Northern Ireland it also formed the foundation on which peace was built. 3/5
Now, some politicians are seeking to weaken protections of the European Convention on Human Rights - we must resist these as it remains a cornerstone of the peace agreement. 2/5
🕊️It's the 28th anniversary of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement, and it's timely to remind ourselves of human rights commitments that formed a key pillar of that peace agreement
A thread 1/5

13.4 million people in the UK are living in poverty.
That’s not inevitable. It reflects how our systems are designed and the choices made about wages, housing and social security.
Poverty is a human rights issue. Everyone should be able to rely on the basics to live well.

On #WorldHealthDay, we’re reminded that health is more than healthcare.
It’s about whether people can afford food, live in safe housing, and access support when they need it.
Health is a human right. Systems can be designed to make that a reality for everyone.
