Anyway, I love this team, I love this city, and can’t wait to properly be invested in playoff hockey again. This weekend can’t get here soon enough.
Also I wish Rick Jeanneret was still with us for this. His goal calls for this season would’ve been crazy. RIP legend.
On that note, whenever it’s time for Lindy to retire, he should get a statue in alumni plaza the following season.
(also side note but can we finally get a Hasek statue too? Best goalie of all time is certainly deserving. Need more statues out there)
Finally: Lindy, man. A Buffalo sports legend as it is coming back home & leading the team to breaking the drought is straight out of a movie. That man embodies Buffalo & is a top 5-10 all time Buffalo sports figure. Anyone who doesn’t have him as their Jack Adams pick is a fool.
The organization needed this so badly. You don’t fix a decade+ of reputation concerns with one season, but winning the division, giving Jarmo the reigns, building out their current front office, & instilling the great culture that they clearly have all accelerate that process.
No doubt down the road we’ll be having 25-26 reunion night like we had 05-06 night. Just a really talented & likable group of guys. Specifically shoutout to Rasmus. After what hes gone through personally & professionally he deserves this. A true captain & proper superstar.
The players deserve so much credit for turning it around. They all stepped up when their backs were against the wall in December and genuinely did the unthinkable. Some great players have come & gone over the years but this was the perfect group to break this thing.
Carrying the weight of the drought has felt insurmountable at times as a fan. I know the current team hasn’t been here all 14 years but they carried that weight too. Hard not to think about Eichel wanting out vs Rasmus & Tage saying “no we’re fixing this no matter what.”
So while hell yes welcome back everyone, this also feels a little more special for those who stuck with it and continued to support & follow the team despite them directly contributing to our collective mental & emotional decline. Love my fellow Sabres sickos out there.
The Sabres online community is one of the most knowledgeable, hilarious, dedicated, & insane sports communities out there. I’ve met some really wonderful people through the pain & misery of the drought and getting to share this with friends new & old is so special.
A season of this magnitude is what the fans deserved after the past 14 years. I’m so happy so many people are back on board and re-engaged with the team, but there were plenty of times that it was DIRE out here. Watching meaningless March games like it was a humiliation ritual.
There were signs that the Sabres were better than their record indicated prior to the 10-game win streak, but what we saw this season was pure magic. Raising a division banner after being last in the conference in mid December is outrageous.

Before the season, @brendanorr.bsky.social and I hosted a trivia challenge with some local media at Mr. Goodbar. I remember laughing with Matt and others afterwards about one analytics model clocking the Sabres at 98 points.
And they cleared it by 10 points! After starting with 26 in 29 games!
Our final trivia night of the season is going down tomorrow at Mr. Goodbar! Show off how well you can name some guys and win cool prizes. Good times guaranteed, come through!

Usual caveats about shootouts and no ties etc. but this is just mind blowing. The 1975 Sabres! +114 goal differential! Like, a dozen guys from that team are in the Sabres Hall of Fame! One of two teams to beat the Ken Dryden Canadiens in the playoffs!
