So I guess I'll see if we commit war crimes tonight.

Today has been really weird.

Breaking: The president has signed an executive order on mail voting. He has no lawful authority to write the rules that govern our elections. He tried a year ago; we sued him; we won. A year later, he has tried again. He can expect the same result. 1/2

Rockdale has about 5300 residents. It's roughly an hour northeast of Austin, in Milam County.

I'm seriously thinking about getting my maiden name back, just to be safe. That's gonna be expensive, because it wasn't part of my divorce decree.

Ugh.

Nice!
My mantra during COVID was "Everything's hard" as a way to acknowledge the constant struggle with a terrifying world.
Now, it's "Everything sucks." We have lost our way, and the struggle to right it is exhausting. Trying not to let it feel fruitless is also exhausting, but I try anyway.

I've started looking into changing back to my maiden name because of the SAVE act potential. It won't be cheap, and it won't be fast.

I don't want to. I've built my adult life with this name, and it's a major deal to update everything.

But I'll be damned if I let them disenfranchise me.

As the governor of Texas cancels the optional holiday on March 31st, and seeks to eliminate all laws pertaining to it, it proves that he is capable of condemning bad actors.

Just not Trump.

Not in this election cycle.

She ran for the US Senate seat, but lost the primary. She couldn't run for two federal seats at the same time, so she'll be out of Congress when her term ends in January.

Totally understandable. I wasn't sure which races were cancelled. Kinda hoping the US ones are boycotted at this point.

Happy birthday, Dad. He would have been 95 today, but lung cancer took him nearly a decade ago. Some anniversaries are harder than others. His birthday didn't hit me last year. This year, it's back with a vengeance.
Bleh.

When I first started out as a journalist I thought it paid to have a background in US history when covering America. Then I thought it would probably be better to be a constitutional lawyer with expertise in jurisprudence. Now I think it would be useful to be a psychiatrist.
