U.S. Considers Financial Support for Oil-Rich U.A.E.

Seems like NYT should have mentioned that UAE's spymaster bought 49% of Trump's World Liberty Financial and used $2B of its USD1 stablecoin, directing hundreds of millions to Trump.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Congratulations, Virginia! Republicans are trying to tilt the midterm elections in their favor, but they haven’t done it yet. Thanks for showing us what it looks like to stand up for our democracy and fight back.

This is your reminder that it's been ten months since the assassination of Melissa Hortman, her husband and her dog, and there hasn't been even a hint of justice for her family, friends or colleagues.

After 509 days of protests, the message from Georgia is unmistakable: the European future is the will of its people. Yet recent legislative moves tightening control over political expression are pushing the country away from that path, as Commissioner Marta Kos warned. 1/2

Saw Anne Applebaum on GPS - she said, yes, he is center right and made no pretension about it. But she is optimistic because he is loudly and boldly anti-corruption and pro-democracy and has said he intends to hold people accountable and change laws to ensure democracy.

I would like to point out that elections have consequences.

Too many people tried to claim Bush and Gore were the same. They were not.

Had Gore won:
- No Iraq war
- No Chief Justice Roberts
- No SCJ Alito

I would also argue N 9/11 because he would have paid attention to the warning signs

Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows:

"In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis.

When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."

Over just five days, the justices had decided the issue. Even as they debated the Obama plan’s possible burden on the power industry, in the entire chain of correspondence obtained by The Times, not a single justice, conservative or liberal, mentioned the dangers of a warming planet as one of the possible harms the court should consider.

Another data point in “originalism is a fraud.” So much for the law is the law we can’t think about the impact. They rail against “results oriented judging” in public but when their corporate clients make requests they know exactly what to do. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/u...
