Are you sure it didn’t just superimpose the VIN from ALPR on to an image of the vehicle? Getting photos of something that small from a moving object seems kinda difficult.

um no they can’t, they’re not that good, you need to get up close to see those dashboard VINs. Zooming in on moving objects is tricky.

Wonder if there was ever a formal agreement for the NYC DOT to service the lighting or if the LIRR did it originally. 🤔

Why does a call center have lockers?

Very little of the particular type of fraud they are talking about, while other forms of insurance and registration fraud is ubiquitous.

💯, but the elimination of toll booths led to significantly less pollution around toll plazas, probably saved lots of people who would be toll collectors from cancer.

Street Utility Hardware Complaint · NYC311

Street hardware form is the best for this, it’s possible DOT referred out your service requests to the DEP but closed the work order with the wrong template.

The 311 system is really stuck in 2003, they don’t seem to have the ability to forward to other agencies.

The area immediately surrounding ‘street hardware’ is the responsibility of the utility for which the hardware belongs, which in this case is the DEP. The pothole crews are probably told not to touch it. @nycwater.bsky.social

Technology-wise, wouldn’t this just expand odometer fraud?

Unless the insurance companies are willing to install their own updateable tracking device in vehicles. Even then, someone will figure out how to remove it, spoof gps readings to make it look like 2 miles are driven per day.

I hope that’s from a water supply pipe and not sewage.

What’s the point of these ‘monitor-and-report’ setups if they just keep reporting the same misconduct for over a decade?

Has anyone tried the civil rights angle with this? The systematic inaction shows clear deference to dangerous drivers and effectively is discriminatory against pedestrians, cyclists as well as other drivers.

Is that an ‘O’ or a zero at the end? Both variations are unregistered per autocheck.

Is there any mechanism by which someone in the council checks for duplicative bills after introduction?

It would be great if Mamdani would forbid them from blocking caller ID.

You would think that commercial insurance companies would just install bollards themselves or ask their customers to do so before starting a policy.

Second OOB cumulative update this month, is that a record?

With the Flock and similar cameras being installed, no reason why the city can’t use them to track and stop any vehicles where the driver is unlicensed or uninsured.
