The American gestapo abducted an 85 year-old widow.
Was she one of the worst of the worst? No, her step-son, a retired Alabama state trooper, got ICE to put her in a detention center to deport her because he wanted all of his father's inheritance.
Sounds like the son is the worst of the worst.

I know there's a lot going on
But what the US is doing to Cuba is unconscionable
Hereโs the thing: Cuba has been making concessions. Opening parts of the economy, talking to US businesses, and even shifting policies that had been untouchable for decades. Did it matter? Nope. Washington basically said, โNot enough.โ That tells you the goal isnโt reform. Itโs full control.

Status Scoop | ProPublica's Walkout Warning: The possibility of ProPublica staffers walking off the job just got far more serious. Unionized staffers at the nonprofit newsroom voted overwhelmingly this week to authorize a strike, Natalie Korach has learned. The ProPublica Guild represents about 150 journalists, videographers, and other newsroom employees. A major sticking point in the negotiations with management has centered on the use of artificial intelligence in reporting, with the union demanding protections from having jobs replaced by the rapidly advancing technology. โWe are ready to walk off the job to show management that their refusal to agree to basic protections will not be tolerated and that we will not accept anything less than a fair contract,โ said Agnel Philip, unit chair of ProPublica Guild.

If people reading this want to help in ways far more impactful than an award? ICE is *still* here, still kidnapping people, and still making it difficult for people to go to work in order to pay rent.
Please, please, PLEASE, donate to rent relief funds.
Minneapolis-St. Paul residents are being honored "for risking their lives to protect their neighbors + immigrant community members from an unprecedented federal law enforcement operation, peacefully defending the human rights + values that serve as the foundation of our Constitutional democracy."

โThey got money for wars, but canโt feed the poor.โ โ Tupac said it years agoโฆ and here we are.
The Pentagon is now asking for an additional $200 BILLION for this war.
We always find the money for war.
But when it comes to housing, healthcare, or feeding people? Suddenly itโs crickets.
Weโre told thereโs no money for universal healthcare or to end hunger in this country.ย But somehow $200 billionย more for war will likely move through Congress without question.ย
Not anotherย penny for another endless war.

Photo of Alice Wong, disability rights activist and writer with a quote attributed to her for Women's History Month: "Advocacy is not just a task for charismatic individuals or high-profile community organizers. Advocacy is for all of us; advocacy is a way of life. It is a natural response to the injustices and inequality in the world."
Through her founding of the Disability Visibility Project, Alice Wong amplified the lived experiences and stories of people with disabilities.
In the wake of her passing last year, her advocacy continues to shape national conversations around accessibility and the rights of disabled people.
If we have to pay to rent movies again on a subscription service, we should just reopen Blockbuster.
Itโs not just Medicaid funding theyโre withholding to MN. Itโs food assistance, child care assistance, social services, job training, safety testing, public health, disaster relief. SNAP. Free lunch for kids in school.
They hate us for loving our neighbors, and are collectively punishing us for it.
They won't start with banning birth control. First they'll lie about it. Then dictate who can prescribe it, use it, fund it, in what forms, and for how long. Suddenly, your doctor won't call you back. I know this is what they'll do because it's what they're doing to transgender healthcare right now.
A happy magic frog that says poof. You are now untired and very happy.

In terms of what cures are being lost:
- Epstein-Barr virus is perhaps the major trigger for multiple sclerosis
- herpes simplex virus causes cold sores, genital herpes, infections in babies, deadly meningitis
- shingles virus causes an intensely painful disease

It was believed in medieval times that hedgehogs had spikes so they could roll over fruit to carry home to their children, which is not true but is a really cute idea

ICE are alllll over Harlem right now, 116 & Frederick Douglass, checking IDs and targeting the areaโs African community. Multiple people have been detained.
Community members are advising folks to carry citizenship documents - or stay away if they are at risk
I'm not one for false optimism. But what I witnessed today in Minneapolis was tremendous, both in scale and exuberance. It was a stunning answer to the federal assault on Minnesota, a show of solidarity that gives us something to hold on to during times that are unforgiving.
In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi.
He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael.
At the time of Maherโs detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Waelโs caregiver put his life at risk.
Wael died on Friday at age 30.
ICE caused his death.
They didnโt get to say goodbye.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
Hard to convey how much you can tangibly feel the love and care for one another people are showing here in Minneapolis. Even in the few days weโve been here more businesses have come on board with the strike and we've met people from every walk of like doing the work to keep each other safe.
