We won't publish any raw materials from the symposium, but we will work with participants towards an edited volume or special issue - so watch our space for updates! sites.utu.fi/whisol/

Hi, thanks for reaching out ! Your research sounds really interesting - and not being a professional researcher doesn't prevent you from submitting an abstract if you do have a paper that speaks to the symposium themes ๐
Huge thanks to @spaceforpeace.bsky.social for sharing our CfP!
Weโre truly humbled by the many wonderful abstracts weโre receiving and canโt wait to engage in the inspiring conversations the symposium will spark.
๐ Still 3 days left to apply in case you haven't done so! โฌ๏ธ
My colleague, friend, and fantastic researcher @giulianofleri.bsky.social has written a touching piece on the forgotten tragedy of migrant deaths in the Mediterranean. Check it out โฌ๏ธ

๐ต๐ธ Today, researchers & students atย @utu.fiย joined a nationwide walkout to honor the victims of scholasticide in Gaza and demand an end to all collaborations with Israeli universities.
๐ข We expect our institutions to finally uphold the values they profess: justice, dignity, and critical inquiry.

๐ Celebrating one year at @utu.fi!
It's been a wonderful year, filled with field trips and meaningful encounters with scholars and activists.
It was especially rewarding to create an international research network on decolonial solidarities - it's people like these that make this job worth it!

๐ต๐ธ๐ข New publication out!
I am glad to have contributed to the fantastic volume De/Colonising Palestine, edited by Riccardo Bocco and Ibrahim Saรฏd - Fully OA!
My chapter critically assesses Jewish-Israeli activism's value and limitations for the decolonization of Palestine.

An insightful piece from @giulianofleri.bsky.social, straight from Lampedusa (and featuring some great photos!)
It uses archival research, oral history interviews, and literary analysis, and engages the boundaries between academic research and political activism as it strives to contribute to todayโs struggles for a decolonial present.
The project focuses on white-led organizations for the rights of Native North Americans across the US, Canada and Western Europe between the 1960s and the 1990s.
Bringing together the frameworks of critical whiteness studies, settler colonial studies, and indigenous studies, the project investigates the role that structures of colonialism and whiteness have played in shaping solidarity efforts and the assumptions underlying them.
Titled โWhite Solidarity and Native North American Rights in the United States, Canada and Western Europe, 1960s-1990sโ, the project interrogates the challenges of building solidarity across racialized and colonial power relations.
๐ฃ Thrilled to announce that I joined a new research project led by wonderful @reettaeh.bsky.social at UTU๐ซ๐ฎ (more info in comments โฌ๏ธ)
If youโre interested in decolonial solidarity and activism, reach out! We are looking to organize workshops and networks for the years to come ๐ฃ๏ธ
