Source, my newest reduction woodcut, is finished! This print was inspired by Lake Itasca. Way up in Northern Minnesota, it’s the source of the Mississippi River! At the source, I couldn’t help meditating on the long journey this water was just beginning!

I’m printing the final layer on Tranquil Chaos today. This print is perhaps a bit more abstract than most of my work. However, late last summer, as I stood ankle deep in a calm Lake Superior, I knew the sparkly, chaotic view before me had to become a woodcut! #woodcut #fineart #lakesuperior

I’ve been working on this reduction woodcut for over two months! I’ve been pulled in a lot of directions lately, but still… look at all that detailed carving. I can’t wait to see how this print turns out, but mostly, my hands can’t wait to be finished carving it! #fineart #printmaking #woodcut

Yeah, I love how much depth and emotion a good blended roll can give!

And finally, I present Light’s Last II! Inspired by the sunset over about a half an hour on a single trip out. The sky and its reflection on the water changed from bright and fiery to dark and rich as the waves from the wind and our wake calmed and the evening progressed.

I just pulled the final layer on Light’s Last III. I took the images that inspired this reduction woodcut at late dusk when the skies were darkening, the waves had calmed and the lake was drifting toward sleep.

The movement in the water is finally coming out in my newest woodcut, Light’s Last II. Inspired by an image I took shortly after the boat turned sharply, I love how the waves in this print imply the boat without actually depicting it!

I’ve finished drawing my new ideas to the woodblocks. I’ll be working on these three reduction woodcut prints in tandem as the colors are so closely related. I’m hoping to start printing these lush rainbow rolls (blended rolls) soon! #printmaking #fineart

Working on the next stage of “The Berry Mason”. This will be a woodcut and drypoint combination print. After making a few test prints, I cannibalized one to flip and transfer the image to the woodblock. Next up: carving… carefully!
