A “train and bike” tour in the German and Slovenian speaking bilingual part of #Carinthia #Kärnten #Koroška 🇦🇹. The beautiful “Kreuzweg” “Križev pot” stained glass windows at #Ledenitzen #Ledince funeral parlour are the work of Valentin Oman.
And there was a coffee stop by the roadside, obviously.

We departed at 20:40 and we didn’t take the St. Gallen route, just the usual one, along lakes Zurichsee and Walensee. First stop was Sargans. (And we had the Zagreb portion leading out of Zurich. On your train the Graz portion was in the front. You didn’t reverse at Buchs it seems.)
sehr fesch! Grosses Talent der junge Mann. Möge es ihm gelingen, seine (berufliche und persönliche) Zukunft selbst zu gestalten, nach seinen Träumen und Ideen! ❤️
Leaving the hustle and bustle of a city. Boarding a train at dusk, and immersing into the cosy atmosphere of a sleeping car cabin: one of the many things that make night train travel a unique means of transport. #ÖBB 🇦🇹 #Nightjet #EuroNight #465/40465 leaving #Zurich🇨🇭HB is my home for the night.

Today’s post is a “would have” one. Today, 15 April, would have been the first day of operation of the #Basel🇨🇭#Malmö 🇸🇪 #EuroNight #472.
Lacking government funding, the operation of this train was eventually cancelled.
A shoutout to all who really tried hard to get this train up and running!
Today another #Basel🇨🇭#Tram picture, taken earlier this afternoon at #Schifflände neighbourhood, by the #Rhine river: a meet of two #BVB Be4/4 “Cornichon” tramcars from the 1980s. The trailers are of a 1960s design. (They were rebuilt in the 1990s however, with the introduction of a low floor area.)
#Budapest 🇭🇺 #Keleti station in September 2008. A #MÁV class 1047 #Siemens #Taurus is ready for an afternoon departure to #Vienna 🇦🇹.

An extensive narrow-gauge network once existed in #Greece’s south 🇬🇷. The voyage usually started (and ended) in #Athens at the #Peloponnese station.
The train on this 1985 photo is, if I remember well, the overnight service from #Kalamata, hauled by an “Alco” Class 9100 and an “Alsthom” Class 9200.
The #Athens 🇬🇷 to #Munich 🇩🇪 “Akropolis” (on the left) coming across the #Vienna 🇦🇹 to #Venice 🇮🇹 “Gondoliere” (on the right, with through coaches from Vienna and Munich to Trieste at the rear) on a summer evening in 1989. Warmbad Villach 🇦🇹. And there’s a #TEE liveried #DB #E10 on the very right.
Another day in #Basel 🇨🇭, another #tram. This is a #BLT #Stadler Be8/10 #TINA unit, seen approaching #Heuwaage stop, on a line #17 afternoon peak hour service for #Ettingen. Line #17 is a reference to the former Birsigt(h)albahn, which actually started from Heuwaage stop, originally.
Dietrich #Bonhoeffer. An anti-Nazi dissident. One of the founders of the “Bekennende Kirche” resistance movement. He was murdered at KZ Flossenbürg on 9 April 1945, 81 years ago today. His poem “Von guten Mächten wunderbar geborgen, erwarten wir getrost, was kommen mag”, has become a worship song.
A #Basel🇨🇭#BVB tram photographed earlier today. This is a vehicle of the Be6/8 #Flexity type, built by #Bombardier Transportation at their #Vienna 🇦🇹 plant (😉). It is seen here crossing the #Rhine river on Mittlere Brücke bridge.
Frutigen🇨🇭on the #Lötschberg line. Northbound #Eurocity #Vauban, mainly composed of #SNCB #NMBS carriages and bound for Brussels 🇧🇪 via #Strasbourg 🇫🇷 and #Luxembourg 🇱🇺 is ready to depart.

same with locomotives, for instance on the Amtrak Acela NextGen trainset. Right side of the power car (like right shoulder): stars on the flag always facing forward.
A relaxing #Easter Monday hike in the #Basel🇨🇭region, on the #Jura ridge. The trail crosses into #France 🇫🇷: some of the🇨🇭/🇫🇷 border demarcation stones date back to 1817, right after the Vienna Congress. And we very much enjoyed our refuelling stop at a lovely “mountain” hut … at some 700 metres a.s.l.
da hilt nur #FensterAuf. Ah, ok.
hm. IntercityNott. 🤔
Wie auch immer: buona nott-e
#Aspern you mean? 😉 There's Siegesplatz in #Essling neighbourhood, in Vienna's 22nd district: chestnut trees, an inn (currently a Konditorei/Café) and the "Löwe von Aspern" lion sculpture. That's about it. OK, the Aspern/Essling victory didn't last long, see the Battle of #Wagram, five weeks later.
Christ has risen. Happy #Easter to all who celebrate! And a wonderful day to everyone!
Deine heutige Fahrt hat mich dazu inspiriert, ein paar Fotos von vor knapp 10 Jahren auszugraben … . 😉 bsky.app/profile/andr...
Pictures taken while travelling over the scenic #Bohinj line from #Nova-Gorica to #Jesenice in February 2017, on board a #SlovenianRailways 🇸🇮 class 813/814 unit. These railcars, of Italian design and similar to #FS 🇮🇹 ALn 668.1800, were built in the 1970s. And they come with opening windows.
vor knapp einem halben Jahr, Mitte Oktober 2025, bin ich noch mit einem gefahren, nach Sežana. (War allerdings einer mit modernisierter Front.)
Oh wow, is the Builder running with single level equipment, Amfleet and Viewliner cars, nowadays? Out the Superliner consist? 😳
Danke!
Good Friday. The Crucified.

The 202.020 (at a certain stage CFL 1602) was “historised” at some point, with the top headlight removed.
