I don’t know what came over me, but I am making my way through my TBR list. For the past few months I haven’t been in the mood for any of them so I bought new books! So far I’ve read four from the list.

FBI agent Denise played by David Duchovny and Dale Cooper, played by Kyle Maclachlan, Twin Peaks 1990

David Duchovny played a transgender woman, Denise, on Twin Peaks in 1990 and when greeting Cooper, the show's protagonist, she says, "I prefer Denise, if you don't mind" and Cooper responds with "OK" and her identity is settled within a couple seconds and was a non-issue, 36 years ago.

The US is like that neighbor who thinks its ok to buy new cars, boats, ATVs, etc., but not ok to pay for piano lessons, braces, a new mattress, or anything else intangible.
It really is ok to use tax revenue to pay for things besides war, war equipment, and bases everywhere in the world.

I could understand if it was a nonprofit and the money was put towards a charity, but if it’s for profit then that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. My local used bookstores offer store credit.

the worst part about writing a novel over multiple years is the desire to consistently keep rewriting it

at some point you have to call it done

but one rewrite more won't hurt, right? it'll just make it better

...just this one part. no, just this one chapter

Crap, I just wrote a paragraph and dammit it’s good. Now the rest of the story looks worse in comparison.

Started writing a new book. This one feels a lot more personal to me than my historical one. 🌲☀️

How to Think About Empire An interview with Arundhati Roy on censorship, storytelling, and her problem with the term "postcolonialism."

An interesting interview I read for one of my college classes. It’s from 2018 but feels relevant to today.

This is Pipsqueak. Her bed is a banana. Technically speaking it is a banana split, but either way, very a-peeling. 12/10 (IG: sassypebs)

4th Circuit Rules That States Can Compel Trans Adults To "Appreciate Their Sex" Via Care Bans They ruled that states "encouraging citizens to appreciate their sex" through care bans is a constitutional goal, affirming West Virginia's Medicaid ban for trans adults.

1. Horrifying ruling out of the 4th Circuit.

An all-Republican 4th Circuit panel has just ruled that states can compel trans adults to "appreciate their sex" by enacting care bans.

It even directly says that trans adult care bans are legal in the ruling.

In middle school, 2010s, we had a week long unit in our computer class where we learned about deceptive marketing as well as how easy it is to lie on the internet. A website claimed there was a species of octopus that lived in trees in the PNW. Class believed it until the teacher told us the truth.

I need some recommendations for the best Arthurian novels - the original Malory (there must be a good modern English version?), retellings, re-imaginings, modern and old, including works that aren't quite retellings but take a lot of inspiration (like The Everlasting by @alixeharrow.bsky.social).
