I think you can get a type of LASIK where one eye is for near sight and the other for far, but that could mean neither sight is great, and anyway near-sightedness is progressive so I don't see how that works over time

... and I now have amazing ability to read small print / do embroidery, I just need to take off my glasses. Whereas my older LASIK friends now can't even read a restaurant menu without digging for reading glasses

Once you reach a certain age it doesn't make a lot of sense any more. Once you get long-sighted (possibly in your '40s already) you'll need reading glasses, which is a right pain. Long-sightedness also brings down myopia. So my glasses have been getting lighter over time...
