I had a psych professor who did a course all about debunking the paranormal. He looked and sounded eerily like the Cigarette Smoking Man and I thought that was hilarious. "Now class, this course is all about how you're wrong about aliens, they don't exist and here's why." (He's actually my hero)

Y'know, even before COVID, I thought it was so strange how some people lick their fingers to increase their traction against paper.
That lawyer shared so much saliva with me.
It is so bittersweet to dismantle Ryder's constellations as we move. The proportions were perfect! Ursa Major even pointed at Sirrus in the tail of Ursa Minor! I built this before I knew who Ryder would be. I'm so grateful I know him better now. He's still a huge nerd like me, but his own nerd.
What can I say, I was an opinionated student.
I love that two of the most competent historians on the planet, end public addresses by saying "I love you" to each other.
Also, stunningly illuminating context of how corruption used to be taken seriously, by @hcrichardson.bsky.social and @jbf1755.bsky.social.

Real Life Comics is still going, and the creator is nowadays an awesome parent, a lovely nerd, and a trans icon!
We're all about to become living archives, protecting history from a new revisionist uprising. I spent my life condemning personal experience as unreliable, but we betrayed the potential of archiving to use it to erase, not preserve. So keep the faith, stay angry, and stay hopeful.
By design, infringements on privacy are irrevocable, both on the individual level (unqualified retaining of private info) and policies of access to people's privacy (historically it's far harder to regain privacy rights once revoked).
I'm so grateful for you. Thanks for keeping lights on all this.
First of all, every single pregnant woman on Earth is stronger than Donald Trump. Trump has no business telling any woman to "tough it out". Second of all, again for those in the back: I will tolerate exactly zero fools discriminating against my family members.
I loved your father's lecture on this story. It created a cascade of myths about the human mind. (Heck, I think I still have the .mp3s!)
@hcrichardson.bsky.social I suspect you would substantially enjoy renowned philosopher @theabigailthorn.bsky.social 's video essay regarding Thomas Jefferson! It would be the bees knees if you two had brunch or a collab.

You can make any Star Trek series you like. Premise, mission, characters, GO. *high 5*
When Trump's henchman Kennedy inevitably falsely claims that vaccines cause autism and implements a ban, I don't want to hear anyone in my presence fearmonger about autism, a common and valid neurotype. The double-tap of endangering my loved ones with vaccine denial and discrimination is NOT ON.
You are indeed Hovind's best gamble to stay relevant beyond the 2008-era YouTube atheism wars; barring of course your self-built self-respect and busy schedule making the world luminous.
"I loved being you. Every second of it. Oh, how you burned like a sun; like a whole screaming world on fire. I remember that feeling, and I always will. And I will always miss it."
I... just...
I think definitely Enterprise. Besides the colonialism, there's explicit gender policing, from "You should smile more, woman who works for me!" to "Hahahaha you did something that women usually do I'M NEVER GOING TO STOP MOCKING YOU NOW" to "Other cultures should tone it down for my comfort".
I immediately realised why Dr. Richardson didn't address the confrontation between Trump and the South African president: if he makes a white supremacist rant to a head of state, there's an unpopular emergency he doesn't want us to notice before it starts killing undesirables.
[correction: sorry, s02e09 speech, the Mon Mothma 'reality matters or it's just monsters in a popularity contest' speech]
[Andor spoilers]
Agreed, vehemently! But: I can't fathom a decision to make an Andor finale in mid-2025 that wasn't ALL about the dissolution of the Senate. After the s02e08 speech that was the only thing needed to connect present and future in a final warning.
Reminds me of a nicer version of the goblet Worf's son made him!

I will skip the Told You So if we can just Get Rid Of This Man.
I'm from Vancouver. I was dismayed when this new mayor resolved to "solve" homeless suffering with more cops and disappearances. The numbers showed we were really helping people by guiding them out of addiction, but gentrified snubbing of undesirables, fuelled by correlations of race, won. Now this.
Trans women ARE biologically women and no biased court can stop that basic fact from being true. Sex is a homeostatic property cluster containing an array of primary, secondary, and tertiary sexual characteristics. Trans people can and do change sex
If there's no such thing as due process, there's no such thing as a citizen, and there's no such thing as a crime. You are whatever the nearest cop says you are, sometimes even as a function of your attitude, skin colour, or in the case of vulnerable women willingness to submit to sexual favours.
THAT WAS THREE POSTS WORTH OF ONE SENTENCE. Mallinson you weirdo badass weirdo you.
Anyhow, my new essay is about how any external comm about a service provided has the responsibility to be accessible and easily understood by every person it serves.
And yet I sometimes miss being a code to unlock.
it must therefore be said that existence is entailed in the concept of that thing, such that insofar as its existence is denied, the internal possibility of that thing is rejected (B624/5)"
(whether reality in the regular sense, or reality as defined and used by, say, Descartes, to be almost synonymous with perfection), such that, since “all reality” includes existence,
"Kant offered a possible objection to his response, that involves what would be the only conceivable case in which the contradiction might hold is a hypothetical being (which, Kant admits, we are justified in believing might exist) which contains all reality....
I'm reading my old university essays while writing a new essay about whose job it is to make sense of words, the speaker or the listener.
I'm looking up these essays as an example because I was delightfully baffling at the age of 20 with not a few things to unpack about myself. Lol look at me go:
I was livid with the famous atheists who took on an anti-feminism crusade in 2011. After that it legitimised a lot of theist contentions that atheism is just more patriarchal colonialism, and on one hand we absolutely have to unpack that, and on the other hand I was like "You are embarrassing us!!"
