The new Pine St bike lane connection between the Arbutus Greenway and Seaside looks pretty good. But it was pretty stunning to see that it was first passed by council in 2018, and construction *might* start next year, after 9 years of consultation.

omg 😂 🙌
I am so angry I never thought of that 😂
One of the parts of campaigning I have enjoyed the most is getting to know Armor Valor.
He brings a lot of really important perspectives to Vancouver politics: he's a union member, a worker, a South Vancouver resident, Filipino--and just all around a solid guy!
I had a good chat with @ionabonamis.bsky.social the other day. She is a smart transportation planner. @pwaldkirch.bsky.social, @russilwvong.bsky.social, and @fabulavancouver.bsky.social are home runs, but I think OneCity voters should consider Iona, too.
Great turnout on a Monday night for our friends at @bikelaneuprising.bsky.social !

Rather than mock Surrey for having ambitions we should direct our ire at the Vancouver decision makers who would prefer Vancouver be some sort of a village

The scene of the masters revealing themselves in the town might be my favourite action sequence ever! Sounds like a good day!
This is why housing advocacy is driven largely by people who just want to be able to ride their bikes & get places on the bus. Once you start looking for ways to make transportation better, you realize that it's land use holding us back.
And then you start spending all your free time at city hall.
Tonight is your last chance to join OneCity and help get a YIMBY on the ballot in the next election!
Join by 11:59 pm tonight, Friday April 10.
Urbanists deserve a seat at the table, and we'll only get one if we make it happen!

Two single-stair 12 plexes, one with bay windows and one with front balconies, amid 90s era vancouver single family homes with pedestrians and cars on the street.
We need to allow our urban 'single family' neighbourhoods to evolve.
Our vision: Accessible, zero emission, bright, social, bike oriented, #singlestair homes - allowed on individual residential lots - everywhere.
Just arrived! Hope to see you here at Rogue!
It's down to crunch time.
The cutoff to be able to support me in OneCity's nomination vote is TOMORROW, April 10, at 11:59 pm!
Don't leave it to the last minute. If you're not a member, please join. If you are, try to find one more person to bring in!

Here's the key problem with zoned capacity: two cities can have the same total capacity, but one reaches it at much lower rents.
If rents need to hit $7000 to unlock half of your zoned capacity, then that 'capacity' is totally irrelevant.
This should lay to rest the idea that "gentle density" will solve anti-housing backlash. Calgary legalized multiplexes (2 storeys, 60% lot coverage) by right and still faced the same headwinds. We won't get homes built by pre-emptively watering down housing reforms, so let's aim higher in Vancouver.
Thanks for the support Ezekiel!!
Yes, yes I do want an urbanist on council.
Yes, so much yes.
The deadline for joining OneCity so you can help me get on the ballot is only two days away!

turning a big dial that says "Property Taxes" on it and constantly looking back at the audience for approval like a contestant on the price is right
You can have a lot of zoned capacity, but if we have to wait for prices to double before getting new housing, that's not very useful!
People who say "we have plenty of zoned capacity" don't care about housing affordability.

Zoned capacity just measures the upper limit of the supply curve: it's the quantity of new housing that developers will produce when prices are infinitely high.
I, for one, am not interested in paying $∞ for housing.

Ken Sim ends his State of the City speech by saying his opponents stand for bringing back disorder and chaos
He then calls out his ABC councillors and ask them to stand up, with the exception of Brian Montague
unclear whether he forgot him, if he was busy, or if he is in his new home in kelowna

Let's celebrate spring by thinking about what new beginnings the year could bring for housing action in Vancouver!
"This isn’t a problem of capitalism, or financialization, or private equity, or any of the other boogeymen alternatives that people ascribe to the housing crisis: it’s a planning system where we’ve added so many different ways to say “no” that it’s functionally impossible for anyone to say “yes”"
Vancouver is selectively destroying its favourite businesses to build apartments above pharmacies on polluted streets.
We do this because it's illegal to build apartments on the quiet streets.
