These people hate my friends and me, and then wonder why I hate them back.

The message of the Right reacting to Virginia is the same as the message of "2020 was rigged": no victory by anyone but us is ever legitimate. We are the only ones allowed to win.
These people are cartoon villains entitled to no respect and no trust. Rabid dogs.
My redistricting take is that we have an incredibly narrow path back towards something like a constitutional republic, and it runs through Dems fighting pretty dirty in the short term.
I think war is a pretty good metaphor. All options are bad, we can't win and keep our hands completely clean.
My most liberal idpol radlib take is that I think it's pretty bad that
right wing forces are actively intervening on behalf of the Klan with the full weight of the state legal apparatus
These people stub their toe or run out of paper towels and immediately write an OpEd bemoaning the collapse of Western Civilization and demanding that the army drown the streets in the blood of degenerates, it is so profoundly tedious.
Personally, I'd love to see
A) Nationwide redistricting
B) Valuing compactness and regularity of districts
C) For districts of equal population
D) Ignoring state lines
E) In an expanded house,
F) Where each rep represents 300,000 people.
But in the meantime, sure. Let's play this game.
"should we really resort to playing dirty to defeat the nazis i–"
yes. kick em in the fucking balls. what kind of question is that. grow the fuck up
This man is your friend he fights for freedom
in fact they are beneath contempt
The GOP entered this redistricting under the rather childish delusion they were going to gerrymander, and nobody would gerrymander them. In TX, MO, and a half dozen other states, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind
wait. wait. you're telling me that the equality of citizens *works?*
the zoomers will never know what it was like to refresh drudge fifteen times an hour on your parents' home computer during election season. only deeply anxious millennials can understand.
as it becomes clear that Yes has won in VA and gerrymandering will pass, a message to Republican voters:
you brought this on yourselves
you convinced the most fairness-obsessed, That Wouldn’t Be Fair-minded voters in the country to affirmatively vote to put you in the dumpster
you earned this
The implicit media consensus is that urban voters should not be able to overrule rural voters, but that rural voters should be able to overrule urban voters, an assumption so axiomatic and unquestionable that nobody even understands they're making it.

Why they didn't vote:
After seeing the aftermath of Abdul El-Sayed asking Olivia Reingold what she meant by a Jewish state, I became convinced it's a question that should be asked more often. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
texas has tort reform so any medmal recovery will be limited by statute. any further details? i don’t do medmal but many friends do
there is quite literally no benefit in confirming him. the bare, minimally competent strategy you need right now is to just keep telling Trump “No”.
on EVERYTHING.
I am begging every Senate Democrat to vote against confirmation of this clown. Take a stand. Don't try to triangulate. This is an easy call.
*tastes the chicken entrails*
my salmonella tells me 4.3%
it would be nice if a media report would just say something like “the law prohibits X, but does not define X, leaving it up for interpretation by both police and courts”
Media needs to stop with "critics say" and just quote the actual language of the bill.
HB 249 creates a new category of "seminudity" which can be used to arrest women who aren't nude, but are wearing clothing — leggings, t-shirts without bras — that religious groups feel is too provocative.
this is quite literally the most anti-American thing possible. the practice of inoculating American soldiers against disease is older than the country itself
