Fun fact: You can do this side quest before the Taurus Fire scenario, which means you can do it before Geo comes up with the name Mega Man.

What's great is that in the original Japanese version, the US and French Mega Men are still called Mega Man rather than Rockman.

Yep, just go into options for the collection itself and turn on Extra Armor Mode. This will make it so you take half damage in every game in the collection, which for Proto Man translates to taking normal damage.

Also, if you're playing 9 via Legacy Collection, you can also remove Proto Man's double damage
