Is it me, or is the "mocap" really bad at conveying what we are actually seeing? In the visual simulation, green looks way more on top of the match than they actually are?

They were originally part of a two-kill team team up. The other part being an Intercession Squad of Astral Claws. (in this household, primaris in mk. X is just what Space Marines have always looked like)
