I'm so close to finishing a first edit on this book. So, of course, I'm here procrastinating.

I've had to make this a positive milestone. I have a friend I always tell at this point every time. Then I carry on, in my mind that's what being a writer is.
It always amazes me how easy it is to go back into the story and add 100 words that will make a twist later in the plot make total sense.

There is a spider in my house. Rescue cat is giving me regular updates which is really helping me write... definitely helping.

This sounds like a great way to spend a day
Writing a book means getting halfway to work and realising the race your characters attend would be better if it was a boxing match showing off the magic one character has, and having to stop to write it down making yourself late, again.

My friend wrote a book. Isn't it beautiful?
It's full of gorgeous descriptions, witty characters and a dragon. Elan finds a new family and self acceptance in her search for her mother. Lyrical descriptions and a world that feels real.

On a walk with my fantasy reading friend, I posited a book related question and she answered it with such perfect insight that it is already in the book. A little nugget of genius that makes the world more rounded and real. Friends are great!

This. All the time.
Except swap out reading for writing. Or both. Both works.

I'm so glad ๐
I don't know why I often ignore the processes I know work. If I handwrite a scene, it will be infinitely better when I type it up. So why do I ignore this? Why do I think 'this time' will be different? Brains are weird.
I am handwriting scenes now.

After a weekend of reading, I was back at the desk writing this morning. #5amwritersclub for the win!

Our infinite fates by Laura Steven is the book I wanted to write since I was 15. And it's magnificent. No notes.

@penguinbooksusa.bsky.social thank you.
Last night, as a storm ripped around my house I demolished the last half of Love, Sex and Frankenstein. I cannot recommend this book enough. It's by Caroline Lea and it is incredible. Go, read it, right now, go...I'll wait

Curling up with books today and going to Eastercon tomorrow, a nourishing weekend that's well and truly needed.

Work made me cry actual real tears of frustration today. I need the long weekend more than I've ever needed it before, and I hate that I'm becoming disillusioned with a job and industry that I would have given my right arm for in my 20s.
The clocks going forward have made it so hard to get up for #5amwritersclub, even the cat is sleeping in. It's making me realise just how much I rely on her nagging me awake each day.
Also, writing is hard and I am procrastinating.

I needed a break today, so instead of writing I've been curled up reading for #5amwritersclub. The book I'm reading is ok. I've found phrases I would have cut or reworded and the dialogue is clunky, which makes me frustrated that this is out in the world and my book isn't. It also gives me hope.
I'm back at it after a whole weekend off. Insane. I didn't even think (much) about the book and instead had a friend to visit, watched TV and ate tons of food.
Life is good. Replenish that well.

I love these competitions, they've given me such a boost in the past and definitely made me a better writer. Hitting the long list a few years ago gave me confidence when I really needed it. You don't need to win to be a winner.

I saw Henry V last night, which was brilliant but meant staying up past my bedtime. I am now yawning my way through some rough drafts of inserts for my MMC. Proud of myself for being here.
The rescue cat is the best alarm clock ever.

I've decided, during this edit that what this book really needs is the MMC's perspective. So, guess who's going to be rewriting again soon.

Today's reading, in between mowing the lawn and demossing the patio. A good day's work and a really interesting read.

It's a misty morning here in Stratford upon Avon, it's making the entire world a beautiful blue colour. I love spring. Every day is different.
Yes, I am staring out of the window and not editing. That's how you edit, right?

I really love this book. I'm editing, I'm at the midpoint and I'm still loving. When will that change? By the time I finished writing The Wilds I hated it.

I'm teaching the rescue cat how to use the cat flap. This mostly means she shouts at me until I open the door. I guess she'll learn the hard way when I'm at work later. Or not. Probably not.
I'm also editing, mostly editing. I should be editing.

The morning smells like Spring; wet grass, a little sharp and the birds are louder than normal. Rescue cat is investigating, I've learned this usually means it'll be a nice day. If bad weather threatens she stays close and pesters me.
It's giving gorgeous vibes.

Of course, feel free.
I'm mostly just trying to read more. I also love losing myself in a book whether reading or writing.
