Commercial software less so because it's often driven by $$$ to some degree: to save money, to make more money, to allow other products to make money, etc. Not saying commercial software doesn't listen to its users, but when you don't get paid to create software, you make software you want to use.

One big difference here is that linux and open source software in general is more community driven as opposed to corporate/commercially driven. Changes (both user facing and underneath) are usually driven because communities and users asks for features or changes, a bit more bottom up approach.

Doing well but very busy. Hope you guys are keeping cool. Both kids play hockey and they're going to be on squirt travel team next fall. Just spent like $1000 on jerseys (home/away/practice/socks/etc). Crazy

Maybe I should have talked about my special interest more, says autistic man ghosted by friend An autistic man whose friend disappeared on him has been left wondering if perhaps he failed to sufficiently monologue at them about his current hyperfixation, it has been rumoured. Dexter Livingstone...

Imagine being able to listen to Bach, Beethoven, Brahms playing their best composition.

Here's George Gershwin himself playing the piano part of one of the best compositions ever

I've played this piano part, it's hard. Knocks in just what a great musician he was as well as composer

Yeah I realized it was probably a joke when I read over what I had typed in response to you. And I'm aware of and agree that the advertising ban is probably a good thing.

Or am I seeing a joke fly over my head and just missed it?

I understand that, but why does that prevent people from getting prescribed these cures that we, who get to watch tons of sometimes very ambiguous ads on TV that tell us to ask our doctor about, do get?

Are you saying that drug companies (a field I work in) aren't allowed to let prescribers know about their cures so they don't know to prescribe them to patients who need them?

I was laid off today from Bungie after 2 years. It hurts but I'm proud of my work and my team. I'm looking for new opportunities as a Technical Producer/Technical Program Manager. Let me know if you have any leads!

i enjoy the "history of rock music in 500 songs" podcast but my favorite recurring gag is how many episodes end with

"Despite selling 6 million records, he died penniless, alone and in agony at the age of 53 of Preventable Bone Dissolving Syndrome. Badaladoo ROCKANDROLLL Badaladoo YEAAAHH."

Was the Soviet Union ever superior to the United States in any way during the Cold War (1945-1991)? David Rendahl's answer: I worked in NATO technical Intelligence right at the end of the Cold War. We spent our days identifying units, systems and deployments across the Warsaw Pact Western Group of F...

The comment is deeply buried so I took a screenshot of it but his answer is well worth the read as well

Possibly because mismanagement on the national level is harder to see the affects of on a local/personal kind of perspective

Top 36 albums played in the month of March. Sugarloaf is probably always going to be on such a list because my kids always want to listen to "Green Eyed Lady" over and over again. There was also a heavy rotation of El Michels Affair last month.

Over the last several months, there's been a huge spike in spam sent from "onmicrosoft.com" business accounts: www.microsoft.com/en-us/micros... Each has its own subdomain (usually gibberish). While it's been constantly reported to Miscrosoft abuse, they don't plan on doing anything about it

Anyone remember custom Xconsoles back in the 90's, where you can show tons of system vitals, calendars, etc. My phone's homescreen got deleted and I had to repopulate it with my widgets and icons and I'm reminded of the Xconsole corollary: you prob don't need it and it uses too much cpu anyways
