I was under the impression that people in book clubs generally read the books...
I'm not seeing much evidence that church people actually read (or understood) the one book their club is based on.

Exactly 💯
"There's this expression, 'cursed by the gods'. What does that curse entail?"
"Literally, 'may people behave like humans at you'," the god said.
"Ouch! And 'blessed by the gods'?"
"Same thing."
"How can it be the same?"
"The difference," said the god, "is which people's attention you catch."
🤣
I think about Kevin Smith's explanation of "if it's not for me, there's nothing left to say, but if I love it I want to share it with you" when someone asked why he only posts positive videos all the time.
I strive for that maturity, but I'm always fighting the inner 18 year old.
Kriminalvårdaren Stella Grimberg fick lyssna på justitieminister Gunnar Strömmers dragning om läget i Kriminalvården.
Här är hennes ofiltrerade reflektion av vad hon fick höra.

This damn post has absolutely ruined my brain every time I hear someone mention "for the time being." Major kudos to the poster, if I ever meet you in person I will congratulate you and then punch you in the face.
There was a faint puff of smoke from the bottle, and a small genie appeared.
"You have freed me," it said, "so I'm obliged to grant you a wish."
It hesitated. "But I am not very powerful."
I nodded. "Of all things I need, give me the greatest you can."
Suddenly, I held a large mug of hot cocoa.
"No," the swordmaster said.
"One does not refuse the king," the herald said.
"I do. I will not train his soldiers or officers, I will not tell my students to join his army, I will not support his unjust war."
"You will regret this!"
"No," the swordmaster said.
I couldn't breathe because I was laughing so hard. That bird's an asshole! 😂😂😂😂😂
Best with volume up.
Ackchyually guy!
Arachnid overlords*
This has been the GOP's "starve-the-beast" scheme for nearly 50 years. Meanwhile, millions suffer and struggle to get ahead as the rich get richer. See the problem here?
"I grant you one wish," the magic fish said.
"To eat my mother's pancakes again, just like when I was a child."
"Are you sure?"
"You think it frivolous?"
"No. But to grand it I must send you back to the child you were, with no adult memories."
"Would my life change?"
"You ask that every time."
When movies were shot on physical film, the film was measured in feet.
This is why any recorded thing is now called ‘footage.'
@JackDexterity: One of the most irresponsible things they teach in history class is that Nazis burned books that contained unspecified "dangerous ideas", because every chud who experiences mild criticism thinks they're heir to that martyrdom Nazis burned books about communism and gender science
"Excuse me, your highness" the frog said. "May I implore you to give me a peck on the cheek?"
"Not a kiss?" the princess asked.
"I would not presume. A peck will turn me back into a prince for a day, so I can find a bow and arrows."
"Whatever for?"
"I'll kill the heron who's eating my friends!"
Mohamed @MohamedSkandari ... Reading books is so profound because it denies you the ability to speak when confronted with an idea. You must listen. It isn't a conversation. Sometimes it shouldn't be a conversation. Sometimes we should just listen. & st listen.
All this. Yes.
Every morning, the queen asked her magic mirror to show her the most beautiful person in the world.
The mirror replied "To whom?"
"The miller who made the flour for my bread," the queen would say, or "Whoever spun the thread my shawl was made of".
The mirror would show her, and she'd be amazed.
I have watched this approximately 47 times and laughed out loud 47 times
I Will Teach My Boys To Be Dangerous Men - A poem by Lucas Jones The following is a poem written by Lucas Jones, and I think it beautifully encapsulates what so many of us want for ourselves and the future generations of boys and men. Here is a link to him reciting the poem on his Instagram, but please enjoy the text below, I would love to hear people's thoughts on this concept of dangerous men. I will teach my boys to be dangerous men, To pick white flowers for all of their friends, and to think of patience when they think of strength. I will teach my boys to be dangerous men. If a sister cries you'll cry with them, and I'll teach them to stop before they descend too deep in their pain, for those who depend on us to feel safe, to keep them all warm. And when you feel the cold you knock on the door and hope someone like you is there keeping watch, to tap you out and make your bed, then sharpen your sword and kiss your head And die as a man who knows what it meant to be remembered for love and the kindness he spent. I will teach my boys to be dangerous men in a world where danger is simply the norm. The dangerous thing is not to conform. The dangerous thing is not to watch porn. Not to base love on a paid performance, But in the soft silence of three in the morning where their love is safe, sleeping, just bringing them water. To know that it's not in the wars that you wage, But you're choosing love despite all the rage. I will teach my boys to be dangerous men, And not be naive enough to pretend that they won't have to fight for the ones they defend. But if you must fight; fight to never again. I will teach my boys to be light when they can, and know in the darkness to reach for my hand. I will teach my boys to be dangerous men, so the danger for all of us finally ends.
Idag passar den här. Lär era pojkar att bli farliga män för det börjar med oss och fortsätter med dem.
Pretty difficult to refute a single thing in this perfect assessment of where the f**k we are, from @iandunt.bsky.social:
There used to be an old sign by the path, warning passers-by of the local sleeping willow, which would trap the unwary with fatigue, engulf them while they slept, and release them a hundred years later.
There was a new sign:
"This sleeping willow is full."
And a map of other locations to try.
If they can suspend your rights because there is an emergency they will continue to manufacture emergencies.
Some day we'll all regret this & we'll hold hearings & rend garments & pledge "never again" & we'll be just as full of shit as we were last time.
Denmark actually has a history of doing just that.
It's been a while, but look at Jutlandia:

Klart hon ska få stanna. Men inte på grund av betyg, språkskicklighet, utbildning eller volleyboll. Utan för att hon är en människa.
"I see you have a new sword," the swordmaster said. "May I have a look?"
"No," said the student. "It is a cursed blade. I would only draw this in dire need."
"What kind of curse? Must draw blood, or will betray you?"
"It will speak, and tell an embarrassing truth about both wielder and opponent."
