Integrating Paperless-NGX with my own PDF Renamer
You may remember that a couple of years ago I wrote a post about trying to find a better workflow to manage the waterfall of PDF documents that me and my wife receive on a regular basis: bank and credit card statements, electricity (and now gas),…
Posts by Diego Elio Pettenò
You're not wrong there. It's the world we live in though — it was easier when the worst I had to deal with was ludicrous death threats for having removed XMMS from a distro...
So I Started Playing With Claude Code
I know it's getting old having to preamble this, but what you're about to read is my own personal opinion, does not represent my employer, my employer has had no preview of what I'm writing, etc. Before someone tries putting words in my mouth (or as it turns…
Not Building My Own Thermostat — I Went With TadoX, Here’s My Impressions
When my wife and I started looking for the house we wanted to buy, we have been looking at both second hand, and newly built homes, as both of those end up with a different set of tradeoffs. At the end, we decided the right…
Reflection On My School Days
This is an extended, long-form version, of something I mentioned in passing on Threads. Just in case you think I keep repeating myself. Despite the awfully silent 2025, for reasons I explained previously, I've been writing this blog for over 20 years. Almost all of…
Will We Ever Get An European Payment Rail?
Preamble and full disclosure. The topic I'm writing about in this post is somewhat connected to my employer, Meta Platforms (i.e. the parent company of Facebook and WhatsApp), who dabbles in payment rails in certain markets, and has dabbled on a larger…
The Blog’s Most Clicked Articles in 2025
I'm not a big fan of the whole "wrapped" meme from services — a lot of things for me don't quite line up on a calendar year basis, so I don't find that particularly compelling to look at. I also find it fairly silly to "wrap" an year at the beginning of…
Market Segmentation: EcoFlow Delta 3 Plus
One of the things that seriously annoy me about being on the Internet, particularly around the communities heavily influenced by Doctorow and Stallman, is that most of those members, confronted with business decisions influencing design and implementation…
As For Why We Left London
Nearly exactly five years ago, after my wife and I left our first flat in London, I wrote a post explaining the reasons we left. I thought it would be a good fit to explain why, five years later, we left London altogether and now effectively live in the suburbs. So first…
Where Did Flameeyes Go?
Hint: not far at all. If you're one of the handful of readers of this blog, you probably noticed that I've been awfully quiet for quite literally most of 2025. Unlike the previous time I took a sudden hiatus, the reason this time is a happy one: my wife and I decided to…
At least one of them has to be a troll, or if they're earnest they're the least informed people in the planet and should probably consider not editing Wikipedia.
Funny enough, the squiggly line is likely an horribly old bug with OOO/LO.

I have one of those images *from 2010!*
Somehow, 15 years are not enough to realise that *maybe* exporting a drawing shouldn't export the spell check results?
I had the honour of being able to take a few candid shots of the performance, on the backdrop of the Park's mansion.
No matter what happens next, Ukrainian people are strong, never lost courage or hope, and never stopped fighting all the while helping each other out.
Slava Ukraini!
Yesterday, women and children from Ukraine Appeal Charity and Sunflower Supplemental School have performed at the historical Bletchley Park, in honour of the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2.
Hey I've been showing my wife Gilmore Girls. It still doesn't get old enough!
Photo of Tom Lehrer
My last living musical hero is still my hero but unfortunately no longer living. RIP to the great, great Mr. Tom Lehrer.
I posted an update over onto my fundraiser's page together with this week's steps!
Comes with a picture of the trike I have posted about before!

Yesterday I watched youtu.be/WSh7U3m9KgA?... again and I realised what seemed to always be at the top of my brain.
I can't unsee @andrewhunterm.bsky.social as the singer 🤣
Still, at £110/yr it's worth buying *now* rather than waiting for the 20GB to be completely dissolved and having to pay full price for it.

This is the time of the year that I usually remind people who are okay with Adobe and Amazon, that you can get a discounted Creative Cloud Photography Plan via Prime Day.
But then I forgot that the 20GB plan I use was discontinued this past January.
The start of this challenge had a bit of a weird timing for me, since we just moved, thus I actually did most of the steps in the house.
But things will shape better soon, particularly since they just finished paving our walkway, so walking out of the house is a a lot nicer.
As usual Avery gets it. Particularly by spelling out what *isn't* (though it's often called) enshittification.
If I'm honest, I'm still not sure whether "evasive evitability" is the same word twice and am afraid to look it up

@mredbyrne.bsky.social funny seeing you here! 😅
@trishyb.bsky.social was Ed as much as an enthusiastic player of Trivial Pursuit as he sounds on radio? 😅
I'm chuckling about the x86-64 versioning bootnote because I remember being confused about that previously 😅
Oh the name rang a bell right away.
Reminds me why I find myself unable to contribute to FLOSS.
People are showing their worst colours either way all the time 🫥
