I'm trying to embrace both angles of fights, personally. The duels in the ROTS novel are my favorite examples :)

These are two very different communities (with major gender divides) but both are equally valid. That's all I'm saying.

Let me rephrase:

I get you see no value in that. The same way I don't find any value in romantic pairings. Just be sure to clarify (as you did with your response) that people should be free to like what they like in fandom.

Over text, indifference can easily come off as hostility.

I started this fandom in the Star Wars versus community and I kinda think you're being too dismissive. After all, this is a world with real books on fighting styles and lightsaber combat that you can buy and study. There are entire tournaments based upon them. It's the male version of shipping.

AOC: “The mistake that I made, you know, from all the movies that we see growing up about heroes & villains — is that I thought that fascist takeover attempts were going to be architected by evil geniuses — I was not expecting how unearned, nepotistic, mediocre, & just dumb the architects would be”

Disappointed, though not surprised, I began to describe various life- saving components of USAID’s global health portfolio, highlighting how we prepare for and respond to emerging pandemic threats; support the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV; and immunize millions of children from the deadliest childhood diseases. I spoke for about five minutes, focusing primarily on our infectious diseases work and hoping to keep the attention of people who seemed to have no experience—or interest—in global health.

When I finished, the room was silent, the political appointees looking at one another in what appeared to be disbelief. The silence was broken by Ken Jackson, who chuckled softly and shook his head. “Wow, there really is so much that USAID does that we never knew,” he said. “This is the story that needs to get out there.”

Joel, also smiling, chimed in next, echoing Jackson’s amazement. “I had no idea you did all this,” he said. “As a Republican, when I think of what USAID does in global health, I assumed it was just, you know, abortions.”

I am fine with commercials playing before the lights go down at the movies. I have GIVEN UP that fight. But when you watch two trailers and then there’s a commercial for KFC? I reject everything about it. It is not a time for commercials, it is a time for commercials about movies, which are sacred.

Ironically, Kripke said he wrote season 5 of The Boys before the 2024 election. It's just that he is really good with his predictions.

In retrospect, seems bad that we played Fox News 24/7 on USAmerican military bases worldwide for the last 25 years.

"This is not who we are" should always be understood as an aspirational statement that carries forward the legacy of countless Americans who fought and died to make it as true as possible, to create the space for you and I to take up the rallying cry.

We won't last 33 more months of this.

This must stop.

We must make it stop.

a woman is clapping her hands in the dark . Alt: Jo March in Little Women (2019) saying "Women!" emphatically.

I love the simplicity of the fact that Artemis is Apollo's sister, and that this mission is led and staffed by so many women. 🌕

I love the call for invoking the 25th Amendment when it’s already been demonstrated that Trump can do anything he wants and just keeps upping the crazy shit and it all amounts to a fleeting hope for institutional intervention, like a prayer from someone who doesn’t even really believe anymore.

Eric Kripke must be a savant because he's been remarkably good at predicting political events. Season 2 had an attack on Congress four months before January 6th and last season had a major assassination which aired five days after Trump got his little ear piercing.

We choose to go to the moon, not because it is easy but because you've seen the other shit this country spends tax money on. At least going to the moon is cool.

The Supreme Court did not strike down conversion therapy bans today.

Not nationwide. Not in Colorado. Not anywhere.

Here's what actually happened in Chiles v. Salazar—and why the coverage you're seeing serves the conservative legal movement more than it serves you.

The people trying to reassess this movie as some underappreciated gem ahead of it's time are completely beyond me. This movie has always sucked.

Countdown To Looking Glass YouTube video by Josh Hadley

We all know that when Trump et al claim the Strait of Hormuz situation was unforeseeable, they're lying.

But did you know they're lying so hard that this exact scenario was foreseen as potentially leading to a nuclear crisis during the Cold War?

As someone who will not be watching it:

What would you say to those pirating the show instead?

I've heard a few fans talk about going that route and I don't think I can judge them or get upset about that.

something that’s important to keep in mind when you are trying to recommend harry potter alternatives not written by a vicious transphobe is that one of the reasons they got so popular is that they are stupidly easy to read and your target audience may not be book people at all

Is there also a hint of desperation here? Absolutely.

Rowling never created a world where many decades of stories can be told like GoT or LotR. And that's on her as a writer and creator.

But still, from a mere filmmaking perspective, yeah, I do get it.

Hard disagree here.

Not saying I'll watch it, but I'm OK with them doing a full TV remake on principal.

The point of a remake is not to do it better, but to explore it with a new medium. They now have the chance with streaming in a way that was simply not possible in 2001.

3 weeks ago 0 0 2 0

fun reminder:

the reason why they make these fucking pointless "live action" remakes is because since it's "live action", the animation is considered "vfx" and not character animation, so they can pay these non-unionized satellite studios fuck-all and make a cool few million for essentially nothing

The airport perks for Congress may be drying up, not a minute too soon Delta Airlines suspends its special congressional service, while a Senate bill could end the line-skipping perk for members of Congress.

BREAKING: Delta is suspending its special service desk for members of Congress until TSA is fully funded, per @ajc.com.

Delta says members of Congress will now be treated like all other flying customers.
