The currently escalating tech backlash must be put in the context of:
“people have been listening to the most insufferable techbros in the world gleefully threaten everyone else with mass unemployment for over 6 years, and they’re sick of their shit”

Forbes is gamifying news about the horrific mass shooting in Shreveport, LA this weekend, encouraging readers to bet on the likelihood of gun regulation with fake money via its "ForbesPredict" feature.
Eight children were murdered in the shooting.

Hey man, on the off chance that you aren't trolling, I wanted to let you know that I used to hate social interaction and was bitter toward people who didn't, and it's because I was deeply depressed. See if the VA can set you up with a therapist and just give it a shot. You might be surprised!
I'm sorry. Good luck with everything 🙏
I think it would help if everything else was called "true crime" and that stuff in particular was just called "journalism," but I don't know how you get audiences to accept the distinction
But I also think most people do not want to hear anything about how machines can do anything humans can do and better right now, in this economy and political climate, and I kind of don't blame them.
I don't think the people who made the running robot did it because they think the point of a marathon is for the distance to be traversed most efficiently and not, like, the celebration of human athleticism. I think they were just celebrating their own human ability to build a cool thing.
It's cool when machines can do the same stuff humans can do because it means one day they can do dangerous and tedious stuff for us. But I think people are reacting poorly to the framing of this article because they know the people with robot money are not interested in the betterment of humanity.
Popeye the Sailor walking through a cavern that is actually a 3-D sculpted model against which his cel animation is composited

Contrasting simplified characters or exaggerated cartooning against photo realistic backgrounds, settings, or composites will always be one of my favorite things in animation. Always such a bold and visually unique handling of the uncanny, be it for comedy or to unsettle.
Giving away free lemonade and popsicles at the park with the DSA on the one day it decided to be 62 degrees and overcast during a heat wave. We have had some interest, though, including a 70-year-old man who asked questions and joined our Facebook page!
Some lunatic just called my phone (strike 1) and left a "voice mail" (strike 2) in which he failed to fully state his business, suggesting I must call him back to get the whole story. Are you out of your damn mind. Furthermore it is the sabbath
It's raining a little bit this morning, so today's walk is brought to you by the way opening my umbrella makes a little "snikt" sound like Wolverine extending his claws
For what it's worth, I think it's helpful to point this out. The difference between "hundreds of thousands" and "64 million" is the difference between "it could be anyone" and "it's statistically likely to be someone close to me." Makes it ever-so-slightly less panic-inducing.
Post the best picture you have ever taken of your pet:
I'm sure he or she had a wonderful time the rest of the evening, but I absolutely love that in that moment, the dog's expression perfectly conveys what it feels like to be forced to sit through Happy Birthday
Ah, April. The season I transition from being 60% apple by volume to being 60% strawberry by volume
Can't pretend this was the conscious reason I'm such a fervent supporter of Weird Art, but you can bet your ass I'm never shutting up about this added benefit of enjoying it ever again lol
Like in hindsight? I think you can actually feel this happening in your mind when you enjoy experimental stuff
There are two wolves inside of me: one believes people should dress however makes them comfortable, and the other believes that having more money than anyone else in the world and just not caring what you look like is utterly infuriating
Does anyone know anything about text message apps? Samsung is discontinuing their native message app and pushing users to switch to Google Messages, which I hate. I'd love one that uses RCS so I can communicate smoothly with iPhone users
When I was a child, I was never allowed to take my birthday off school, and I didn't know any other kids who did either. I think being able to decide how you're going to spend your birthday is an adult thing by definition.
Why did I immediately know what that meant and WHY do they do that
I have started choosing a small detail to consider on my walk to work. It's like a meditative practice to keep me from thinking about the news. Today's walk is brought to you by the hissing noise Tom Petty makes into the mic at the beginning of American Girl for no apparent reason
the best dinosaur is clearly Iguanodon, because of all the dinosaurs it most resembled a middle-aged Sicilian-American dock-worker with a switchblade
Why are they doing this, Megan?Because you people are a bunch of kindergarteners, intellectually and emotionally, and your religious leaders are trying to teach you how to get along with the other kids and share and play nice. Which is like the core purpose of religion as a concept.
I don't know who this is, but he looks exactly like your friend's uncle when you were in 3rd grade who would drink beer and stare at you from the easy chair and your friend's mom was always like "Don't go in there alone with Uncle Dan. If he wants to talk to you, he can do it out in the living room"
🙄
Being aroace fucking sucks. Everything in the world is designed for couples and families. I'm sick of having to do everything myself, and after my parents are gone, I won't have anyone in my life. It's a comfort knowing that dating is miserable and most relationships are bad, but I'm just tired.
I didn't think I'd have any. I never bothered to picture being this old, and I routinely look in the mirror and am shocked that I made it. I wouldn't say things are like, spectacular, but considering I always assumed I'd be dead by 25, they could be worse.
The terrifying thing when someone resigns from office this fast is that it often means we don't even know the thing he's resigning for yet.
