well this was ahem 30 years ago... It was long enough! (Mind you 10K is barely throat-clearing now...) I still have it somewhere on a floppy disk... SO much to do with 2 Gents. SO much. Chin up chook.

mine - honours level, so 4th year - was 10K - but I did write another 5-6 5K essays that year... - and then yes, 40K in a year for MA. I knew what I was doing (well I didn't, I arrived expecting to do the MPhil first only to be told, nope, straight to PhD). But YES re scaffolding!! Hope you're OK ❤️
🤬how tedious... but look, they have books and DVDs! (I hope that violence did not occur.)
Virtuous women in the Canterbury Tales! (4th year honours dissertation, alongside courses on Shakespeare, Donne and a LOT of medieval French.)
how utterly infuriating; quarrel, we will back you...
hooray for following your desire lines!
reminds me of Antony Sher's dream anecdote in Year of the King: as press night approached for Richard III he had a nightmare which included the problem of how to incorporate newly discovered material about a Russian presence at Bosworth...
yessss! not every book is PhD 2.0!
A photograph of a play in performance. A young man wearing a dark jacket over a dark shirt is speaking and looking intently at a young woman, who is pushing him away. He's got a dirty face. She's wearing a red strappy dress, her blonde hair is quite messy, and she looks cross. The background is blue-lit.

Lysander (Fergus O'Donnell), drugged out of his tiny mind, swearing his devotion to Helena (Hermione Gulliford) @the-rsc.bsky.social 1999, dir. Michael Boyd des. Tom Piper.
v strong identification with Elinor here🙄but yessss re Marianne
I'm so sorry to see this, the mendacity and cruelty of it too.
relieved that Lucy picked this up because embarrassingly I realised that I would not have this at my fingertips...
A photograph of a character in a play. On a blue-lit stage, a young woman with her hair in messy earns; she's wearing shorts and a t-shirt, with a vest over the top and a sort-of ruff, and fairy wings. She's speaking, with her hands out.
A photograph of a character in the same play. An older man with a short grey beard; he's wearing what looks sort of like armour, with panels of leather or cardboard hanging all over his cloak, and a crown made out of wooden sticks.
Puck: found them! Can we watch for a bit, boss? it's HILARIOUS! #MoonMad

Puck (Joséphine-Fransilja Brookman) & Oberon (Chris Jared) in the current @the-rsc.bsky.social /Unicorn family production of Dream playing in London & then in Stratford. It looks great!
am still hoping for the cross-over between this and your Henry IV edition; for Hannaford read Hotspur??
can endorse yes
ROMOLA 😎Just saying... (Must reread Middlemarch.) I had SUCH a literary crush on Adam Bede...
indeed
A photograph of a character in a play. A man wearing a grubby black singlet over black shaggy trousers. He's looking confused and counting on his fingers; he's holding a small white flower in his right hand. There are what looks like bolts growing out of his forehead at the sides, and he's grubby.
A photograph of a character in a play. Blue-lit, a man looking very intense, holding purple and white flowers in his hands close to his face. He's wearing an amazing finely pleated silk coat, with geometric shapes I the silhouette.
Puck: yes ALRIGHT I'll sort it out, look, I'm going... #MoonMad #SlowShakespeare

Puck (Mark Hadfield) and Oberon (Peter de Jersey) in the 2008 revival of Dream @the-rsc.bsky.social dir. Greg Doran.
am not disputing this 😋... just the bathos of all that sculptural labour - which is itself a kind of fiction - which has frozen something as temporary as textile folds for all time - being compared to the ultimate in the transitory, because both melting and consumed. (See, inter alia, chapter 8)
stay classy... (mmmmm ice cream)
look at those folds around his feet - an impossible volume, but it keeps it decorous!
love the oxblood! am sure that the apricot will bring it together...
I can't see that mask without thinking, what have they done to Peter Holland??
A photograph of a play in performance. On the right, a man with a bare chest, wearing a loose linen sarong over trousers; he has blue sleeves on his arms, curly hair, and is holding a large branch with three white flowers in his left hand. In the foreground, blurred because moving, is another man who is wearing a red loincloth and holding a long red silk hanging from above. There are other people visible in the blue-lit background. The floor is sand.
Oberon: well THIS is a mess... #MoonMad #SlowShakespeare

Oberon (PR Jijoy) and a blurry Puck (Ajay Kumar) in the 2006 DASH Arts / @the-rsc.bsky.social Dream, dir. Tim Supple. Once the action moved to the forest, the floor was covered with sand.
love Black Forest Catto....
this looks like the beginning of the swim stage of a crustacean triathlon....
congratulations!!
😎have commented on this stylish dude yes...
this was exactly my thinking. Also you could stash a LOT in those breeches...
kind of badass isn't it? and exactly what's being compared with scarification and body modification practices on the Ivory Coast etc in early travel accounts
