This was a major communication failure for public health when they told people what they wanted to hear: Get your vaccine, get your "immunity" and go back to normal.

They gave people the impression that the vaccine would keep them from getting sick and dying, and this was not the case.

Thus, vaccinated folks quickly got re-infected, and realized that they had been lied to. They were under the impression that once they got the vaccine, covid was over for them.

Leaders were giving the message that the vaccines were sterilizing, when in fact, they were not.

SARS CoV 2 evolves too quickly for the vaccine to be sterilizing, and within a few months a new variant had arisen.

Public health leaders were giving out messaging to the public to suggest that a vaccine-only approach was going to end the pandemic.

At the time, the vaccines were showing evidence to be very effective for a short period after administration, but that efficacy waned within a few months.
