Dark blue textured background. At the bottom, there are illustrated candles that are the colors of the trans flag (blue, pink, and white). Text reads: Today is Trans Day of Remembrance. Trans Day of Remembrance is a day to honor the memory of trans people who were lost to transphobic violence.
Dark blue textured background. At the bottom, there are illustrated candles that are the colors of the trans flag (blue, pink, and white). Text reads: Trans Day of Remembrance started in 1999 with a vigil to commemorate Rita Hester, a Black trans woman who was murdered the year before. Today we remember those we’ve lost to anti-trans violence, particularly trans women of color.
Dark blue textured background. Text reads: At ASAN, we recognize that autistic people are more likely to be LGBTQ+ than non autistic people. We stand in solidarity with our trans siblings and recognize how our communities overlap. Transgender autistic people are often denied the autonomy, recognition and respect they need to live according to their gender identity. Misperceptions about what it means to be transgender, or about autistic people’s ability to understand their gender or make decisions about their bodies, often prompt service providers or family members to stand in the way of transgender autistic people’s attempts to live life with authenticity and dignity.
Dark blue textured background. At the bottom, there are illustrated candles that are the colors of the trans flag (blue, pink, and white). Text reads: While we mourn, it is also vital that we take action to protect our trans community from discrimination in every area of society. ASAN will continue to fight back against attacks on trans rights and work towards a world in which transgender autistic people are respected and included everywhere.
Today, November 20th, is Trans Day of Remembrance, a day meant to honor the memory of trans people who were lost to transphobic violence. We remember and mourn for those we’ve lost, and will continue to work towards a world without transphobic violence.
On this Trans Day of Remembrance, we think of those we've lost, whether they were bright young people who were just starting their lives or our cherished elders. Please be kind to yourself. <3
An illustration of Miss Major surrounded by candles with blue background and a famous quote of hers written in gold. The quote reads“I don’t need their permission to exist; I exist in spite of them. I want you to train and teach and love on and create families within my community and gender non-conforming people, so that we can understand that we have a culture, we have a history, we have a reason to be here. We have a purpose. We’re entitled to be loved, and seek happiness, and share that with the people that we care about.” -Miss Major Griffin-Gracy
We honor the legacy of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a fierce protector of our collective freedom. Our hearts are with her loved ones and all who carry her vision forward.
"We will honor Miss Major forever." - @imarajones.bsky.social

"In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." - Martin Luther King Jr.
Our silence speaks louder than we think. When we stay quiet, injustice wins. ✊
Now is the time to raise our voices and stand beside one another.
