Why does the Australian Government prioritise foreign owned gas corporations over Australians?
Japanese gas giant INPEX:
- exports more gas than NSW, Vic and SA use combined
- pays no royalties or petroleum tax
- pays virtually no corporate tax

Great piece on how Aus coal and gas decisions impact Asian countries.
NSW stopped coal mines. Korea will end coal sooner.

this report and numbers is since 2022 election of Albanese government in 2022
Hey Australians
If the Albanese Government hadn't been letting the gas industry rip us off since 2022, we could have had:
💰Free TAFE and university, or
💰Free universal childcare, or
💰$2,500 each
Bummer!

WELD Australia CEO Geoff Crittenden adds his voice to support for a 25% tax on gas exports.
"If a 25% tax on gas exports gives us $17 billion a year to invest, then the real question is not whether we can afford to act. It’s whether we can afford not to."

WELD Australia CEO joins the ACTU, Greens, One Nation, David Pocock, leading economist Chris Richardson, fmr ACCC Chair Rob Simms, The Australia Institute......and most Australians

Subsidies to mining companies growing faster than the NDIS, child care, aged care.
Australian gov fossil fuel subsidies now at $30,000 every minute of every day.

This conflict is likely to drive global gas prices through the roof.
Because the Australian Government gives most of our the gas to Big Gas exporters for free, and the PRRT is broken, Big Gas will make massive windfall profits and Australians will get virtually nothing.
Economist Chris Richardson on the PRRT
"We made a mistake in the economics as we set it up and, as it changed from oil to gas, that mistake became a fatal mistake."
That was 38 YEARS AGO...our governments have been literally giving our gas away ever since

Finally an Australian Parliamentary inquiry proposed into why Australian governments have been giving away Australia's gas to multinational gas corporations FOR FREE.
Will the major parties who have been giving the gas away for decades support it?

Not only does the Australian Government give Japanese gas export giant Inpex all the gas it exports from Darwin FOR FREE, and lets them pay virtually no tax...
Inpex "systematically underestimated' by 40X leaks of cancer causing benzene near Darwin.
Consequences?

The second and third richest men control Google.
The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.
And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.
See the problem here?
Talk about ART OF THE DEAL!
SA Premier Malinauskas lands deal for SA taxpayers to pay over $12 GJ for gas Santos sells to Korea for probably about $6.
What’s not to love !?!?…(if you’re Santos)

OK, so now virtually all the Independents, the Greens and One Nation support taxing the gas industry more in line with the majority of Australian voters.
Only Labor and the Coalition seem happy ignore voters and let Big Gas keep ripping Australians off.

Independent Senator David Pocock has added his voice to calls for a 25% tax on gas exports.
@markogge.bsky.social explains why Australia taxes beer more effectively than its gas exports.

Japan is on-selling even more gas than it imports from Australia … at a profit!
Gas that our government mostly GIVES THEM FOR FREE
They now on-sell 1.7X more gas than they import from Australia.
Meanwhile Aussies left short and paying through the nose.

Great to see the PM sticking up for those plucky little foreign owned gas multinationals making $ gazillions exporting Aussie gas our government gives them for free
Against mean (but true) allegations that the pay less tax than Aussie beer drinkers!
www.facebook.com/reel/2569953...
Do beer drinkers pay more tax than gas companies?
Yes, they do!
Beer excise > PRRT
Beer drinkers' income tax > gas company income tax

236 million tonnes of emissions over its life = double Australia's annual emissions, 1200x Vanuatu.

While coal and gas companies are making millions in profits from burning fossil fuels, it's our communities footing the bill for climate disasters.
A climate disaster levy would make polluters pay for the damage they cause!
@markogge.bsky.social #auspol
If the our government doesn’t do the same, Australian families will be left with massive insurance costs, while the fossil fuel corporates make $billions.
Support the @ausinstitutearchi.bsky.social Climate Disaster Levy on fossil fuel exports.
