It is still winter up here.

My garden the other day. Hopefully this snow melts soon.
The ground is thawed enough in 2 of the 4 raised beds for planting garlic. Most people this far north spring plant garlic.
I'm no good with patterns. Can someone help me out here?
I sowed tomatoes and Brussels sprouts this weekend. I also sowed some flowers. Moving forward I think I will focus on more edible planting but the flowers do help my food garden and I have the seeds already.
‘The Quiet Place’
Yellow light drifts through the pines so tall,
Where the river bends in a quiet glow,
A hush of gold as the soft winds blow.

It was an extra long shower this morning on the first day of an economic trade war with the United States.
I did a trip yesterday and stocked up on all my seed starting supplies. I also have liquid mushroom spawn in the mail that should be here next week. I am happy to have a distraction from ::waves wildly:: all this because my nerves can hardly take anymore.
‘Whispers’
The Cabin hums with embered light,
The Frozen world is still at night,
As snow drifts whisper through the trees,
A silent dream upon the breeze.

I am lacking motivation to do my winter chicken coop clean-out. I bag up all the bedding in old feed bags for future use in my garden. After this tea, I am going to just get it done with.
‘The Frozen Night’
Through the frozen night, the sled dogs race with frost on their fur and snow on their face.
The moon hangs low in the icy air. As winds bite sharp, the dogs don’t care.
With paws that pound and spirits brite, they chase adventure through the night.

PSA- Gov. Braun has banned the distribution of the Imagination Station books in Indiana.
For those who do not know, Imagination Station is a program started by Dolly Parton which provides a free book each month to children from 0-5.

I went through my edible plant seeds and made up my lists of what I am growing and how much. I also have made a list of what mushroom spawn I want to order for mushroom growing this year. I have started some flowers and herbs already. #garden
‘Home’
How does one describe home? Here’s a piece inspired by just soaking up the environment around me: the still, crisp air. The movement of the evening sky. The days that feel, at times, so long….and at other times not nearly long enough.

🚨REAMS IS DOWN🚨 I don’t know how I missed this but I did so a 🧵 on what REAMS is and why it’s important to have it back.
ABA It has been three weeks since Inauguration Day. Most Americans recognize that newly elected leaders bring change. That is expected. But most Americans also expect that changes will take place in accordance with the rule of law and in an orderly manner that respects the lives of affected individuals and the work they have been asked to perform. Instead, we see wide-scale affronts to the rule of law itself, such as attacks on constitutionally protected birthright citizenship, the dismantling of USAID and the attempts to criminalize those who support lawful programs to eliminate bias and enhance diversity. We have seen attempts at wholesale dismantling of departments and entities created by Congress without seeking the required congressional approval to change the law. There are efforts to dismiss employees with little regard for the law and protections they merit, and social media announcements that disparage and appear to be motivated by a desire to inflame without any stated factual basis. This is chaotic. It may appeal to a few. But it is wrong. And most Americans recognize it is wrong. It is also contrary to the rule of law. The American Bar Association supports the rule of law. That means holding governments, including our own, accountable under law. We stand for a legal process that is orderly and fair. We have consistently urged the administrations of both parties to adhere to the rule of law. We stand in that familiar place again today. And we do not stand alone. Our courts stand for the rule of law as well.
Someone at the American Bar Association ate their Wheaties this morning.
I am having one of those days so decided to put a caribou roast in the oven. The smell of it cooking is making me feel better. I am still using potatoes from my garden but I think they will only be good for another couple of weeks.
‘Night of the Bison’
A piece inspired by an evening spent alongside wild Bison and under an incredible night sky. I’ve been fortunate to observe a scene just like this a few times while north.

For my mental health I have decided to take on a gardening project of developing a landrace squash for here. No idea if it will work but it will be a couple of years before I know and I need something to focus on in the next couple of years. I like butternut squash so that is what I am starting with
It is -40°C/F right now and I get grumpy when it is this cold. I mean it could be -50°C (the coldest I have experienced is -55°C before windchill I think) but I am still grumpy.
I usually do grocery pick-up but now I will have to go into the stores to make sure I am not buying from the US.
I don't even know what to say about the news right now. I have no idea what will happen with this trade action that Trump started.
You can take some cuttings and overwinter them maybe. I do that with a lot of plants and I am not as warm as Ontario.
Yesterday, it was 3°C. This morning is -5°C. Friday night they say it will be -42°C. It is something that happens up here but I don’t like it when it does.

Loads of spelling mistakes in this.
My electric tricycle showed up and I just got her assembled. Her name is Matilda. It is -20°C so I have not taken her for a ride yet.
