Name me one who can logically compete. Remember, Rayner, Burnham, Streeting and Miliband are all non-starters.

You’re often right about these things. ☺️

I rarely disagree, but what’s the plan after Starmer? There is no suitable candidate to follow. Calling for Starmer to go is tantamount to advocating for Farage and Reform. Are we learning nothing from US?

I read a ton of books and articles and book chapters across multiple disciplines. This doesn’t make me unfocused. It broadens my horizons and enables me to create connections across disparate fields, disciplines and methods.

Criticism of him appointing Mandelson is valid, but not new. The issue that the security vetting was not revealed to PM is a separate (not that straightforward) issue. Many bad actors are using the latter to revisit the former. It’s tiresome distraction from other stories (eg Tice, Farage, Russia).

I don’t think this is accurate. He’s claiming he didn’t know that Mandelson failed the advanced security vetting. He’s NOT claiming that he didn’t know about Mandelson’s past. I think he’s conceded that it was a bad appointment, which is on him. Let’s get accurate about reporting pls.

Nigel Farage Has Personally Accepted £675,000 from Foreign Sources Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has accepted more than half a million pounds from foreign companies, governments, and donors while serving as an MP, DeSmog can reveal. Since July 2024, when he was elect...

“Farage rarely turns up to do his actual job. Yet he finds time to jet off around the world on his donor’s private plane and trouser half a million quid while families struggle. Reform are not on your side. They’re just in it for themselves”

It’s so obvious, it hurts.

I suffer from this, but don’t consider time at airports wasted. I take my laptop and get a lot done.

I’d have more time for Mandelson-gate if we hadn’t had 14 years of governments that frequently floated all norms of governance—proroguing parliament, installing Russians w/kgb links to the Lords, frequent lying to parliament. Whataboutism? Sure, but why judge Labour w/ different standards? #r4today

@garyseconomics.bsky.social from a working class academic who loves your podcasts and finds your critique of academia quite accurate (though painful to admit). I’d love to see you use this platform to bring together the progressive academics/economists/ social scientists—many of whom […]

My understanding is Rory takes up Professor ‘of practice’ positions at US schools of Government—which are different from the types of expertise he was asking Polanski for. But you’re totally right that such positions are established to recognise the practical experience of ppl like Rory (and u)!

Tesla. Disney. CVS Health. United Airlines. PayPal. Billions in profits. $0 in federal corporate income taxes.
That money should be funding schools, healthcare, and public services.
This is why people are mad as hell.

This is such a tiresome morning of news. Seems like such a trivial agenda compared to the major ongoing issues around the world …also Badenoch is so awful #r4today

Calls for Starmer to quit over this latest Mandelson revelation seem pretty desperate. #r4today

It’s makes you wonder how he has time to run the Department of defense, with the over preparation he is putting into these speeches.

The North Sea oil and gas issue is the same as the anti-net zero issue. It’s fossil fuel industry lobbying via Tufton street. They’re scared shitless about the green transition (which is far more simple) and will do anything to stifle it. #r4today

The issue was/is that those Americans were right, they were owed a better deal. But sadly most Americans are so unworldly that they believed it was the rest of the world that owed it to them, rather than the Oligarchs protecting the crippling wealth disparity within the U.S.

Ppl ARE being arrested for publicly attending events in support of 🇵🇸. Very few (if any) have been convicted of the terrorist offences they are accused. That is exactly how you would use the law to stifle political opposition to something. As much as I despise TC, the confusion is understandable.

I agree with the first part. But many ppl think that the prescription of PA as a terrorist organisation totally undermines (in principle, if not letter of the law) your reasonable first point—and makes arguments, like Tucker’s, all that more closer to reality.

More than 500 arrests at Palestine Action demonstration Event organisers said it would show the

Because they ARE arresting ppl campaigning and demonstrating in support of Palestine. The shred of truth opens the door to all the crazy claims ppl like Tucker and Elon are making. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

He’s wrong on exact detail, but ppl are being arrested for campaigning and demonstrating in support of Palestine. It was a mad position for the gov to take, and it’s only validated insane claims made by those on the right.

This was a genuinely awful interview. She has accused him, multiple times, of being an antisemite even though he made it very clear his criticism was of Israeli government. That the BBC can make someone like Tucker Carlson appear credible is an indictment to the typically poor quality of #bbclaurak
