I am receiving invitations to predatory/fake conferences every day, but this one feels like a personal burn 😅🔥

In our department this has been dubbed "Smells inequality" (all credit to Dorian Schiffer)
10 years after its founding, driven by the energy, enthusiasm, & dedication of the community @quantum-journal.bsky.social quietly published paper #2000 some days ago.
At least I think this is a big deal, big shout out to the founders & all authors, reviewers, editors, board members & contributors!
Some quantum info researchers are reluctant to learn about non-CPTP maps, but are ultimately left with no Chois.
The third-party funding must flow. They who control the third-party funding, control the universe.
QuOI is happening?
A very nice cover image!
Over on LinkedIn the spirit of the season is spreading with a joyous round of pre-holiday bragging about publication metrics 🎄
Was an honor and pleasure to serve as handling editor for this paper, not just because it was a very nice piece of work, but also bc I enjoy good puns and pop- (or in that case, rock-)culture references (admittedly, also the bad ones), not sure if the authors noticed mine in the decision letter
Back in my day, we listened to teachers telling us about Franz Ferdinand in high school, in Austria. Kids these days.
You can, and absolutely should.
Social(-media) experiment: I posted the same blurb on our new research paper on Bluesky and on LinkedIn. Apparently many more people from the quantum bubble on LinkedIn (~5 times as many reactions), but actual responses there mostly nonsense and people trying to plug their business
… the significance of our new work lies in presenting a clear path to efficiently distribute arbitrary GME states in future quantum networks.
The 1st main challenge is overcome: GME states are precisely & reliably generated in a (trapped-ion) quantum processor & mapped onto traveling photons. 8/8
We confirm this by testing purpose-designed GME witnesses based on fidelities to 8 different GHZ-type states.
In the future, the photons can be mapped onto remote matter-based qubits, e.g., as in doi.org/10.1103/Phys.... Besides being the 1st experimental verification of theoretical ideas ... 7/8
Specifically, three ions are stimulated to each produce a photon (a), with which they are pairwise entangled (b). Then suitable quantum gates and measurements are applied to the ions (c) to remotely prepare GME states of the distributed photons (d). 6/8
In their lab, they demonstrated the core functionalities of a factory node based on trapped ions by producing and verifying GHZ-type GME between three photons generated from the ions and sent to the end nodes, the latter for now represented by photon detectors in our setup. 5/8
In our new paper arxiv.org/abs/2510.15693, EntaQCT www.quitphysics.info/entaqct team member Ida Mishra and myself on the side of @tuwien.at had the pleasure of collaborating with the team of Ben Lanyon at the @uniinnsbruck.bsky.social 4/8
A proposal for realizing a light-matter interface to generate GME is a central matter-based “factory node” that can be programmed to efficiently distribute arbitrary photonic GME states to surrounding clusters of network nodes. 3/8
GME is a non-classical correlation between multiple nodes that is required to make full use of the potential advantages of such a quantum network.
While the quantum systems at the end nodes will likely have to be matter based, light signals are the only viable option for the distribution. 2/8
Quantum networks might one day enable more secure options for communication and distributed computation and are therefore currently a hot research topic, one which presents many challenges: One is the on-demand distribution of quantum systems that feature genuine multipartite entanglement (GME). 1/8
Is it just me that finds it weird how ingrained it is in science that research groups identify as "The PI's-last-name group" as if their research & research interests were entirely determined by the PI? To me this feels unnecessarily adhering to authority and fostering cults centered around PIs.
Wait till you hear about Quantum's embargo and pre-print policy!
Few will recognize this as a quote from Al Cappuccino in "And Coffee for All"
I'm a glass-half-full kinda guy
Not sure what I would do without LinkedIn, where would I get my daily dose of people obnoxiously bragging, companies making hyped fantasy claims about imaginary quantum breakthroughs, and people congratulating each other on how long they have already not-yet quit their jobs
