oh gosh, thanks! can’t wait to read yours!

From a messaging standpoint, this new White House site attacking the press is rather brilliant. And it’s why I wrote in @niemanlab.org last year that the industry must adopt an insurgent strategy and go on the offense.

For nearly their entire lives, teen have heard repeatedly that the news is fake and journalists are the enemy of the people. And no one has pushed back with equal or greater urgency. So, it's no surprise that most teens in this survey have a negative view of the media.
tonight I attended the @ajc.com live taping of Politically Georgia, which featured key Democrat and Republican gubernatorial candidates (minus Burt Jones and Ruwa Romman).
nearly all candidates, regardless of party, agreed that the cost of living is the top issue facing Georgians.
BTW, we're finalizing our AI guidelines so readers can better understand how we use AI and how we disclose it. It is informed by @trustingnews.bsky.social. trustingnews.org/new-research...
Taylor, happy to talk about our approach. This was an incredibly exhaustive project for a newsroom of our size. The reality is ACC does not have the budget to put 10 people on a story series. We don't have a research arm. So we talk to experts and use technology to help us sift through data.
hahaha. I have to hear your take on this.
In Atlanta for the #ABFE Harambee Conference? ACC's @sabalong.bsky.social will join @thepivotfund.org and others for an important conversation on the state of Black media, combatting misinformation, and funding journalism that serves the community.
Federal policy changes—such as funding freezes, executive orders, firings, and other actions—are directly impacting metro Atlanta organizations and households. ACC has two surveys live to gather objective insights on what's happening on the ground locally.

a defense contractor is bringing Christ to Silicon Valley. he believes in his cause so much he turned down an opportunity to serve as defense secretary under Trump 47. intriguing @wired.com piece.

HB 147 would require state agencies to report to the Georgia Technology Authority which AI tools they're using and how AI influences their decision-making. A related bill to propose a statewide AI board for state and local governments did not make it past Crossover Day. #gapol
Manigault has come under fire for how her office issued third-party subpoenas to banks for financial records pertaining to investigations. The city's attorney issued a cease and desist order that accused the OIG of violating state law by not notifying account-holders in advance of the subpoenas.
if you don’t share your successes, your opponents will share your losses –– and that becomes the public narrative. the CFPB has saved taxpayers ~$21B but the only people who know that are policy wonks & media. if folks learns anything from this slash & burn era, it is you must tell your story first.
4? for protein? i have questions. lol.
an Atlanta treasure!
are you stretching and warming up beforehand? also, how you pull back makes a difference. I’ve found that technique makes a huge difference.
haven’t seen this law enforcement statement about the J6 pardons circulated much. I cannot overstate how rare it is for the IACP and the Fraternal Order of Police (!) to speak out and criticize a Republican president.
thanks! yes, let’s! long overdue.
We are really leaning into community in 2025. That’s why I’m so excited to launch “Community On Tap” this MLK Monday. If you care about building a city and metro region that feels like Dr. King’s “beloved community” then this is the event for you.
it's a theory that a lot (more than we realize) of the internet & social media we consume is actually bots, AI, or astroturfing.
are you familiar with the dead internet theory?
WSB's (metro Atlanta's no. 1 TV station) traffic helicopter is officially no more due to budget/costs. I'm assuming Atlanta's TV stations will now rely on drones for aerial footage of our notorious traffic. Drone journalists...is that a thing?
When snow blanketed Atlanta this morning, most of the city shut down. Schools and businesses closed, the roads emptied, and children found the nearest fluffy white hill to sled down. But not Atlanta’s unhoused residents. That’s where the city’s emergency warming centers come in.
Our top non-election story of 2024 made the rounds in education, nonprofit, and government circles. This story was also a great example of how our newsroom relies on data to help paint a clearer picture of a particular challenge: 12,000 metro Atlanta students are homeless.
WSJ: Rural Chinese migrant workers have severe reservations about starting a family. And a big reason appears to be China’s household-registration system, which since the 1950s has divided the population into rural or urban and makes it hard for rural workers to take their children with them.
Far more people trust and have faith in their local government than the folks in D.C. Over the years, in Atlanta, we’ve have moments that have hurt that trust – corporate giveaways, unkept promises, corruption, etc. The future of the OIG is worth paying attention to, esp. ahead of an election year.
why do I voluntarily put myself through the suffering that is Atlanta Falcons football? I’m tortured enough being a nonprofit executive director.
There’s still a lot Joe Biden can do in his final days as president, including:
▪️ Pardon people convicted of nonviolent marijuana offenses
▪️ Make the Equal Rights Amendment part of the Constitution
▪️ Protect vulnerable federal land
thanks for reading! think of this as more aspirational or what should happen. I do expect we’ll see this energy in pockets of the country.
