Renoir, Cézanne and Matisse art among items stolen in Italian job The paintings were taken from a museum in Parma by four masked men in the middle of the night, police say.

A group of thieves was in and out of an Italian museum in just 3 minutes, stealing paintings worth millions. The theft happened a week ago but is only announced now (which I consistently maintain is a bad strategy as it gives the thieves a chance to fence the goods). www.bbc.com/news/article...

Poem that reads:
A piglet's most precious possession
Is the teat that he fattens his flesh on.
He fights for his teat with tenacity
Against any sibling's audacity.
The piglet, to arm for this mission,
Is born with a warlike dentition
Of eight tiny tusks, sharp as sabres,
Which help in impressing the neighbors;
But to render these weapons less harrowing,
Most farmers remove them at farrowing.
We studied pig sisters and brothers
When some had their teeth, but not others.
We found that when siblings aren't many,
The weapons help little if any,
But when there are many per litter,
The teeth help their owners grow fitter.
But how did selection begin
To make weapons to use against kin?

Today's gem is the summary of this research paper on sibling rivalry in piglets. The authors wrote it as a POEM. I'm in porcine awe:

Wayne Thiebaud’s Sweet Take on American Art - JSTOR Daily The beloved American painter rejected attempts to categorize his work as a Pop Art as he experimented with texture, light, and nostalgia.

Saw the Disney musical Hercules while in London this weekend, except I read Wearing the Lion a couple months ago and so the musical was overlaid with serious @wiswell.bsky.social vibes. (Needless to say, I enjoyed it.)

Wayne Thiebaud (1920–2021) was fired from Disney for being a union man, went on to create topographical models of Japan in WWII, and was labelled a "Pop Artist" by critics. He outlived all the other Pop Artists, and most of his critics, and thought Warhol was 👎 daily.jstor.org/wayne-thieba...
