It’s quite telling that James is once again appearing on business podcasts, where his claims go totally unchallenged with no right of reply.

The Diary of a CEO, Punks With Purpose 8 August 2022 A response to James Watt’s interview with Steven Bartlett (4 July) Just over a month ago, James Watt featured on Steven Bartlett's podcast,...

Two and a half years ago we raised our concerns directly with the team at Diary of a CEO, after they allowed James to spread harmful misinformation on the podcast. We were completely ignored.

Steven Bartlett sharing harmful health misinformation on Diary of CEO podcast Disproven health claims are accepted with little challenge by host on number one podcast, BBC investigation finds.

It’s long overdue, but we’re pleased to see that Steven Bartlett’s podcast has been investigated, finding a lack of scrutiny given to guests’ claims and the spread of harmful misinformation.

All in all it’s a thoroughly grim watch, and we’re disappointed to find he has failed to grow up, has belittled the impact of mental health conditions caused by his company, and remains unaccountable for the harm he has done.

He also fails to correct the host who believes him to have sued the BBC, and claims Netflix want to make a show about his dodgy deals (despite having failed to find an outlet for his BrewDog movie).

“There’s an old saying that money just makes you more of the same of what you were before, so if you're an asshole before, you're even more of one.”

“We invest in our team, we pay a great wage.”

“Have we made a few mistakes along the way? Yes, but no more than any other company.”

Aside from continuing to perpetuate these damaging claims, he also treats the audience to some unintentional comedy gold:

“I read the Elon Musk autobiography by Walter Isaacson.”

We also think it’s important to remember that it was also explicitly stated in the letter that people suffered mental illness as a result of working at BrewDog.

James is now essentially saying “these people said our culture causes poor mental health, but don’t listen to them, they’re mentally ill”.

Suggesting that the letter is somehow less valid because of mental health conditions increases stigma and spits in the face of attempts to make BrewDog a more mentally healthy place to work, such as the investment in MHFA training for staff.

Despite previously apologising and acknowledging serious issues at the company, to this day James describes the open letter (signed by hundreds of people) as six bitter ex-staff acting out of jealousy and anger - but now he's also claiming that it's because of “well-documented mental health issues”.

Hey everyone! We’re hitting the ground running here on Bluesky with a brief response to a podcast published a few days ago. Secret Leaders invited James on to talk about BrewDog (and his new venture) but sadly once again he doubled down, proving he hasn’t changed a bit.
