I'm in this boat. Was against Biden in the primary, viewed him as a stick in the mud. The level of miracles he was able to make happen turned me into more of an optimist about how government can work and how the Democrats can govern. Even now that has not changed.

The people I'm thinking about are *definitely* capable of making business decisions that would be less shitty towards the community, and they could make these decisions without much professional pushback from superiors, yet they don't because brain off.

Is it possible they're not real people and you're a magnet for foreign government funded influencers, because of your prominence?

I haven't actually met or heard anyone (that I can account as being a real person) saying anything beyond that you can be a bit abrasive when proving your point.

The sheer amount of people I personally know that completely turn their brains off at work and act as mindless yesmen, then turn around and act like they're some proletariat saint is sickening. I'm fairly sure that decade long trend in observed behavior carries over to some of the loud mouths here.

i am convinced that the loudest people crowing about how evil the banal take that "you can get to the airport kinda late and missing a flight is actually whatever if the next flight would be fine" have not been to an airport in the last five years

I think “AI” is sometimes used on here more as a justification for antisocial behavior rather than a concrete descriptor of specific technologies.

The actual divide on this website, much like real life, is between people who are curious about the world and want to understand how it works and people who are very mad that the world doesn’t work the way they want it to

There's a whole world of political "humor" that isn't actually jokes but is wildly incorrectly points will be defended as jokes if you point out that they're dumb and I think it's also a piece of the "vibecession". Get rid of it.

Yes that’s a wonderful way of putting it: when you look at data, you are looking at some representation of reality. Reality too complex to capture in an image or a paragraph transformed into an image you can understand and interpret. Done badly, it can lie to you, but it can reveal the unseeable too

I am absolutely convinced that reason people cannot grasp even the basic facts about the current economy is that almost everyone gets their ideas from their social environment, and they are embedded in a environment that constantly, incessantly reinforces doomy, pessimistic narratives on this topic.
