A scene from Dazed and Confused. Driver: You gonna die at the end? Passenger in back seat: Uh, no, I wasn't planning on it. Driver: It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

Ann Rice was also in a position of privilege, where she didn't have to care about the consequences of criticizing movies made from her books. For most authors it would be career damaging, if not outright ruinous. If I'm ever so lucky, I'll hold my tongue tyvm.

This is why I won't do Substack. I know all the popular kids are doing it, but the popular kids are getting blue checkmarks on Twitter too. Take your content and your audience away from Substack, it's not worth your credibility.

We're seeing the movie tonight. I read the book, and really enjoyed it all the way through.

It makes about as much sense as asking why everyone doesn't write romantasy or horror or whatever the genre flavor of the day is.

Besides, are you really a writer if you haven't been rejected by agents who asked for exactly what you've written? 😂

Oh, for sure. Discount books are like vacation calories. They don't count at all.

Same! Bookbub has a great mailing list to be notified of deals in genres you read. I get so many books from that list!

I replaced my Kindle with Kobo almost a year ago, and just found out today that Kobo has a price match guarantee. So even if Amazon offers your ebook or audiobook cheaper, Kobo will refund the difference plus 10%. Good to know going forward.

The final paragraph of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, followed by a handwritten addition by somebody else: As he drifted away I could just make out his final words. "It's okay if you just call me 'Frankenstein' instead of 'Frankenstein's Monster.' I really don't mind. The end

Mary Shelley could have saved us from insufferable pedants.

An outing to my local bookstore today, and I noticed a couple books:

- A debut author who didn't warrant a separate "About the author" page. The publisher just printed it on the inside back cover.

- Another debut author, whose dedication was squeezed onto the copyright page.

😒
