I’ve been overlooked, underestimated, and counted out my whole life. And yet I rose to shatter California voting records when I was re-elected State Controller, winning more votes than any statewide candidate in California history — including all governors. A record that still stands.
Academic elites and corporate media giants want to be unelected gatekeepers – blocking all Democrats of color from being heard in the governor’s race. This is happening in the most diverse state in the nation — where communities of color are the actual majority.
Letters won’t define my destiny. The name Betty Yee is moving up - in more ways than one.
For a woman who’s usually stuck at the back of the alphabet line thanks to a last name starting with the letter “Y,” I appreciate this luck of the draw!
In a large field of candidates, you’ll see my name listed toward the top of the ballot this year.

More than 8 million Californians voted for Betty Yee when she was
re-elected as State Controller in 2018.
Asked at a (recent) forum who they would endorse in the crowded race, if they had to name someone other than themselves, rivals Tom Steyer and Antonio Villaraigosa both said they would pick Yee.
