in which I do nothing meaningful for an hour to procrastinate and not do the dreaded thing that would take 5 minutes

LYRIC LOGIC is out in the world now!
Carmen!!! ❤️❤️
I'm so grateful to @devingarofalo.bsky.social for organizing this special issue and for offering me the opportunity to contextualize the events at St. Norbert College within a broader range of attacks on higher education. The thinking that went into writing this has been vital to me, in all senses.
So glad to call @redguju.bsky.social my friend and colleague. Breaking down what it means to be a good teacher.
"This dynamic, relational, context-aware work is the essence of teaching. Artificial intelligence, although it can mimic the surface of that interaction, cannot participate in it as an accountable, reflective human being.
Moreover, faculty are not just information delivery devices."
It is! Love it
I'm writing about The Americans and thinking once again about how awesome the marriage depiction is in this series. Also the finale. The train, Paige, everything.
The vast majority of stories do not have morals.
We've seen a *TON* of posts saying Ohio now has a drag ban.
NOT SO.
HB 249 passed the House this week, and now must start the entire hearing process over in the Senate before heading to Gov. DeWine.
SHARE this piece so we're all on the same page.

Big fluffy black and tan husky mix with bright blue eyes, making noise about me taking too long to toss a snack.
goooood morning it is chilly and overcast but we had a good loop, visited some guys working on a car, shared our snacks with the crows, and did a quick nose-boop with a dog-friend through a fence, so yes, by all means: Lucy Loved That Walk
57 of my fellow students were arrested, academically disciplined, and barred from campus 2 weeks before finals.
And then the visas of some of those students were quietly revoked.
And then the DEI office was killed.
And then we watched our mentors’ grants evaporate over “woke”.
A pile of Anna O. Law's Migrations and the Origins of American Citizenship and one copy propped up on top. The cover is an USA flag with a figure of a man behind it like the stripes are bars

BREAKING: Nearly 1,000 faculty members at NYU are on strike.
The union for non-tenured faculty, @CfuUaw, was optimistic about reaching an agreement this morning.
But after giving the university a 3 hour extension, the two sides could not agree, and the strike is now on.
+ don't miss Warner's thread on yet more threat of the casualization/devaluing of faculty labor
A "dead classroom," AI interacting with AI, no humans learning anywhere. Not hyperbolic. As awful as it sounds.
Those not in higher ed: instructors' level of frustration with AI already is unimaginable. Help us fight this.
So gross, hint of an insight coming at :42? No, "I know I help them in so many ways" at "the stage they are in their life." Women pupas
I'd tell my soufflé joke but it'll fall flat.
You guys, it's true I made less than $6 in royalties on my book last year, but I'm about to make a mint (?) from Anthropic for IP theft. Hooray!
Everyone should teach Sinners.❤️I'm teaching it for the second time this semester and would be happy to share lesson plans if anyone wants to see them.
It's part of the film's general irony & questioning about who's really violent & a "sinner" in the Jim Crow south/US. From the beginning in the church to the end, it questions that traditional value system. (It's also playing ironically with a long history of xenophobic use of the vampire figure.)
I read the Irish characters as a pro-immigrant solidarity fantasy, a speculative rewriting of history, in which no one's taking advantage of anti-black racism to get ahead because everyone recognizes the real game, white supremacy and pitting marginalized groups against each other
Weird, Sinners is pretty politically unmuddled, while also not clear and simple. While also fun and interesting!
We deplore the racist and anti-immigrant comments about OSU’s new president, Dr. Ravi Bellamkonda, that have been appearing on social media in response to his appointment. We call on all Ohioans - and everyone else - to stand firm against hate and prejudice, regardless of what we think about the selection process. Racism, anti-Asian or otherwise, has no place in our state.
Nip this racism in the bud.
you're right
Scene from The Pitt: doctor handing a patient Baldwin's Notes of a Native Son
The Pitt is forgiven its laughable version of an English prof because of its on-time book recommendation
Photograph of seven faculty members outside the board of trustees meeting where the new president was announced.
Our members, on and off the board, showing up this morning at the OSU board of trustees event announcing Ravi Bellamkonda as the new president. We spoke to the media about our extreme disappointment with the process and repeated our call for a more transparent, inclusive, and democratic university.
The rushed selection of Ohio State University’s new president forgoes principles of shared governance and ignores input from faculty, staff & students.

If you're OSU, an alum, or any Ohioan, watching what's happening to the state flagship, please consider signing and resharing in your community.
Here we go again.
We're tired of this revolving door. And we need a real say in what comes next.
