During the “extended curfew zone” in Takoma this weekend, a handful of MPD officers sat in their cars while residents of all ages partook in normal spring evening activities—tennis, basketball, walking dogs.

MPD should’ve gotten out of the cars and engaged with us.

Local teen (mine) spent this afternoon fishing in Sligo Creek, riding around the curfew zone to see if any friends were at risk, and carving a wood bat out of the Christmas tree that DPW never picked up.

The vast majority of kids are all right.

Tonight we’ve had multiple neighbors, including our teen kids, riding around the neighborhood on bikes and scooters to keep an eye on things. There are multiple MPD parked around the area including a pickup truck loaded with police-branded bicycles.

It was nice to meet some new neighbors ✌️

A “juvenile curfew zone” has been announced for my neighborhood, encompassing schools and the rec center, for tonight through Sunday. It’s spring break for most DC kids.
