Do you ever start a new typeface design with a recipe that sounds really funky in your head, but the resulting design is…pretty tame? I thought I was drawing a fun display thing, but it’s really a quirky text thing. Not mad, just surprised!

I’ve had so many ideas for comic strips in my adult life. I’ve created the characters, explored their personalities, mapped out the worlds they inhabit, but the strips never materialize. But maybe this time will be different!

I always feel a little bad when I win an eBay auction for an old type specimen book or something, because I have to assume I'm bidding against someone I know.

I just lost all of my beautiful, beautiful browser tabs, and I was almost to the acceptance stage when I realized the window was just minimized on my other monitor.

I started a newsletter three years ago and have sent exactly *two* in that time. But I keep getting new subscribers every day, which both increases the pressure I feel to one day send out a real banger of a newsletter AND makes it less likely that I will ever send one at all.

So now I’m going down the rabbit hole of musical notation fonts and SMuFL, and I’m realizing I need a lot more free time before I can get into this for real. Throwing another thing on top of the “Future Projects” pile!

Now, as always, fonts are creeping into the picture. I want to start writing notation for some of the songs I’m writing, and, of course, that has turned into dreaming about making my own notation font.

Recently, I got a full 88-key digital piano with pedals on Marketplace, and playing it is the most calming activity you can imagine.

One thing I’m doing to keep from despairing is playing piano. I took lessons for years as a kid before I took up bass and started playing in bands. But I haven’t had a piano in my house as an adult.
