Birds Beneath White Flowers in Winter, c.1875.
The Japanese Pheasant (top right), introduced as a game bird, inter-breeds freely with the common pheasant from which it differs principally in the pale rump and green underparts. The Lady Amherst's Pheasant (top left) from Tibet and Burma, has been imported frequently as an ornamental bird, and escapes from collections such as that at Woburn account for its occasional occurrence in the wild state. This applies also to the Silver or Kalij Pheasant (lower left) from South East Asia, the hen of which is crested and distinctively plumaged. The large Reeves's Pheasant (lower right) from Northern China has been established occasionally in Scotland and elsewhere. ~ description taken from Midland Bank series of illustration
