The last academic in the UK, please turn off the claude.
Oh Daisy. This is so awful x
Horrible, cruel and stupid. I'm so sorry.
'Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said "freedom of speech is the foundation of every university's success" but there had been too many cases contributing to "an unacceptable culture of fear and stifling the pursuit of knowledge".
Presumably referring to impact of current mass HE redundancies.
Horrible. I'm so sorry.

It's Wednesdays at Winchester, and it makes my day.
They have practically a full run! I was so excited!
Me, short with long blonde hair, holding a copy of the zine Hellebore in an independent bookstore with green-gray carpeting and a wall of books facing cover out on wooden bookshelves
A table filled with the British Library Tales of the Weird series, featuring Circles of Stone by Katy Soar
'Hey Niall! We're in this!' I'm yelling out the door to my friend and colleague at Courtyard Books in Gloucester @helleborezine.bsky.social. Shout out also to @kjsoar.bsky.social who is also heavily represented here!
Him: what are you thinking about?
Me: Durkheim
Water management: always important and frequently more interesting than someone might think (unless that someone is me)
Oh how interesting. The women in my mom's family (self included) frame quilt. My mom has the frame her dad made for her mom. No idea it was endangered in the UK.
Moulded pot from Corbridge showing a smith (god?) at work

Now, you might say, "What about all the knowledge we'd lose if we push all the abusive geniuses out of academia?!"
But I'd counter and say, "Well, what about the knowledge we've already lost from the budding scholars whose careers they've derailed with their abuse?"
I'll see what I can do!
Absolutely related, I am mentally and emotionally exhausted at the year 1119.
I think 'hero' and 'halo' are interchangeable terms (we use 'halo' at my uni which, like Leonie, I despise.) It's supposed to be a big, solid, stable programme which generally recruits large numbers.
The cover for the book Norman Rule in Normandy 911-1144 by Mark Hagger, which features a black-and-white photograph of a ruined castle on a hill below a dramatic and cloudy sky.
Shout-out to the not-on-BS Dr Mark Hagger. I'm writing about Norman captivity practices in the long eleventh century, and his Norman Rule in Normandy book @boydellandbrewer.bsky.social has been an absolute bible to me.
'As anthropologists, we have been conducting ethnographic research since 2022 on how research culture is understood and experienced within the intricate ecosystem of universities.'
Smart piece this: worth a read. 1/2
Such terrible news, I'm so sorry. Love to you and all yours x
Oh dear! Hoping for some sunshine and some good results for you and the kiddo. Take care of yourself
I get to go see Glastonbury Tor for the first time this week! How about you?

And Kelly Preston. That's a Space Camp reference for those of you who haven't seen this particular example from the 'kids having adventures' genre of 80s films
In all seriousness (and I am below), I grew up with Sally Ride and Christa McAuliffe and knew that just like them and Lea Thompson and Kate Capshaw that I could go to space someday.
