Had fun talking to The Hobbyist about THE SLIP. We discussed how I made money for the 12 years I worked on the book, the interior lives of Peloton instructors, and my favorite Austin restaurants (below) Hope you’ll give it a read! 🥊

Had a blast this weekend talking about THE SLIP at the San Antonio Book Festival and the Corpus Christi Literary Reading Series. Thanks to everyone who came out and to my husband for taking the b&w photo that is ushering me into my televangelist era!
Cooking dinner & listening to @allofitwnyc.bsky.social and got a kick out of hearing a reader call in to recommend THE SLIP. Lots of good recs in this one! www.wnyc.org/story/a-guid...
Thanks for mentioning our SLIP conversation as a San Antonio Book Fest highlight, @expressnews.com! Hope to see you Saturday, San Antonio!
This Saturday 4/11 I’m excited to be at San Antonio Book Festival for THE SLIP: A BIG TEXAS NOVEL with my pal Isa Arsen. 10am at Launch SA Center. Signing to follow. Hope you’ll join us!

Grateful to see THE SLIP longlisted for this excellent new prize, decided on by booksellers! Congrats to the winners, Virginia Evans and Milo Todd!
ICYMI! Wrote about Frederick Wiseman and boxing for the Paris Review. Pleased with how this one turned out, hope you’ll give it a read 🥊
Next Saturday I’m thrilled to be presenting at the Corpus Christi Literary Reading series. This biannual reading has featured quite the line up in the past (Nathan Hill! Elizabeth Strout! Updike!) & I’m honored to be included. If you’re in the area hope to see you then! 🥊
More evidence to support a running joke in THE SLIP that everyone knows someone from Newton, Massachusetts
Didn’t win NBCC John Leonard Prize but had an amazing time at the ceremony in very good company. And my editor Tim O’Connell surprised me with a training session at Gleason’s (!) beforehand. Move over three martini lunch! (& big congrats to Nicholas Boggs for Baldwin!)
In 2000, I encountered the work of Frederick Wiseman for the first time while working on an unusual project (at least for a college freshman). Years later, I encountered Wiseman again, this time in real life. I wrote about it and him for @parisreview.bsky.social 🥊
For the Paris Review online, I wrote about two formative experiences, both involving the filmmaker Frederick Wiseman, who died last month at 96. If you haven’t, hope you’ll check it out 🥊

remains wild to me that the GOP is the party that's actually treating their opponents like they're an immediate and dire threat that must be eliminated at all costs meanwhile the Dems are like "hmm not sure I totally agree with all of this but let's hear these guys out, just in case"

Had fun on the On the Serendipitous Side podcast. We talked about writing some of the cringier scenes in THE SLIP, my one (very mild!) gripe with reader reviews, and the inspiration for the character of David. Hope you’ll check it out 🥊
