If you're driving too fast to stop before you see someone on the road ahead, you're committing an offence:
"A vehicle shall not be driven at a speed exceeding that which will enable its driver to bring it to a halt within the distance which the driver can see to be clear."
High-viz is no excuse.

First shared by @greens-efa.eu almost four years ago, this message feels just as urgent today amid a deepening energy crisis.
We can’t keep ignoring the root cause: our dependence on fossil fuels - driving conflict, damaging our environment, and pushing costs ever higher for ordinary people.

Observing the first Community Safety Partnership public forum this evening at Cork City Hall — where the public will contribute to the first Cork City Community Safety Plan.
This is the first of its kind in the country. Great to see a full attendance and residents across the city contributing. 👏👏
Lisa Murphy at the Chit Chat group in Mayfield CPD.
Pleasure to drop into the Chit Chat group in Mayfield this morning — to (badly) join the weekly sing-song 🎶 to enjoy a coffee and a chat ☕ and, this week, to join a special celebration that must stay secret for now. 🤫
Traffic in Douglas Village is at breaking point.
I’ve brought a motion to Cork City Council to push for safer streets, better flow, and real priority for buses under BusConnects Cork. We need solutions that work for residents, students, and commuters now. Let’s get Douglas moving again.
The abuse that Senator Eileen Flynn has faced in recent days is both disgusting and disturbing, serving as another example of social media companies neglecting their duties to reduce harm and hateful content - @malcolmnoonan.bsky.social
My motion to reopen Douglas Library as a quiet study space for Leaving Cert students did not pass at Cork City Council last week. Our young people deserve better especially those without a space to study at home. A solution to this problem must be implemented as soon as possible.

Green campaign graphic with stylised cannabis leaves in the background and the text: “Let’s legalise cannabis in the EU. Decriminalise, destigmatise & regulate.” European Greens logo at bottom right.
Green infographic titled “Benefits of legalising cannabis” listing claimed benefits: relief of different kinds of pain, treatment of neurological symptoms such as spasms, helping with cancer symptoms and treatment side effects, reducing drug trafficking, and regulating the supply chain and product quality. Small note says the health claims are confirmed by the World Health Organisation. European Greens logo at bottom right.
🌱 Let’s take a science-based approach and legalise cannabis.
💪 Some countries have taken steps in that direction, like Germany & Luxembourg, led by our friends from @gruene.de & @deigreng.bsky.social.
🇪🇺 Let's legalise it EU-wide!
Vacant homes for over 10 years on Rochestown Road? In the middle of a housing crisis? This cannot continue.
I’ve brought a motion to Cork City Council to strengthen vacant home taxes and push for real action. If we’re serious about housing, we must be bold and we must act now.
We call on the foreign affairs ministers, meeting Tuesday in Luxembourg, to suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement.

Thanks to JJ O'Donoghue and Tripe & Drisheen for reporting the colour involved in Cork City Council naming the city's two newest bridges.
From block voting to a fascist scare, ultimately we settled on two names reflecting the city's artists and revolutionary women.
Thanks to Peter McCarthy and the Irish Independent for reporting my invitation to buskers — on a two-year review of the city's busking byelaws.
Overall, I feel they're working well — having worked with performers to develop them, and despite one or two who believe laws don't apply to them.
Thanks to Peter McCarthy and the Irish Independent for reporting the debate at Cork City Council — on graffiti, including the phenomenon of strange conspiracy and homophobic graffiti in the St Luke's area.
Agencies and the community respond quickly, but the person doing it is persistent.
In China battery electric trucks and hybrid trucks now outsell diesel trucks for the first time.
Modern high yield crops on which we depend only produce that yield with several rounds of fertiliser application. A big proportion of that fertiliser can’t get out of the Middle East now. Millions of people are going to starve as a result of Bibi & Trump’s war.
Is the EU finally ready to listen?
21 April could be a decisive moment to finally suspend the EU Israel trade agreement.
Germany and Italy hold the key.
Tell Friedrich Merz and Giorgia Meloni to suspend the agreement NOW.

After my clinic yesterday, I attended the Foróige Citizenship Showcase 2026 at City Hall. It’s vital that we value, support, and recognise, young people and the incredible projects they create. Well done to Cork City Council and all the groups involved.
I went to support and encourage my Councillors Colleagues at the Dragon Boat Challenge. Our first participation, and came 7th over all. What a team! Well done, and looking forward to the next year challenge.

We made a good showing — holding the women of Inniscarra to a dead heat before being edged out in a rerun. 👏👏
Congratulations everyone involved in organising, taking part and watching from the riverside.

Great to arrive at Mahon Community Centre this morning for my clinic.
Thank you to everyone who came along and got in touch. I am always here to listen and help.
My next clinic will be here on Saturday May 23rd from 10am to 12 noon.
_"The Government’s consistent cheerleading for data centre expansion has reached a point of reckless disconnect from the economic reality of Irish citizens... Irish families are paying nearly double the electricity rates of these industrial facilities, effectively subsidizing the massive energy consumption of global tech giants while struggling with a punishing cost-of-living crisis." https://greenparty.ie/news/uncritical-expansion-data-centres-will-fuel-social-inequality-and-energy-crisis-cllr-hazel-chu
Data centres uses 32% of Ireland's total electricity supply but pay almost less than half of the residential rate. So we're effectively subsidizing tech giants during a cost of living & energy crisis. Meanwhile this Govt continues to cheerlead their expansion & continue to fail in their obligations.

The suggestion that Ireland should reverse the ban on drilling for oil and gas has popped up again.
I made a programme looking at this from every imaginable angle.
Listen: 👉 www.rte.ie/radio/radio1...
Spoiler alert: The arguments for drilling don’t add up.

"The missing piece is a funding commitment from government. Recent kicking to touch on public transport projects undermines confidence on this.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland are giving hope that this can proceed more quickly if political decisions allow it to happen."
- Councillor Dan Boyle
That would be the ideal. Much more ambition needed for our city.

New Luas Cork route unveiled for all to see
A non-statutory public consultation will now take place on the Preferred Route. This will run from 11am Friday 17 April until 5.30pm on Friday 12 June.

First proposed by Green Party TD Dan Boyle in 2006, the New Luas Cork route has been unveiled today with 27 stops.
The public consultation will continue until Friday, June 12.

I’ve made a submission to An Coimisiún Pleanála (Ref: 324153) on the proposed development at the former Mother and Baby Home site in Bessborough.
Planning must serve the common good & must include dignity, respect, & listening to survivors & families.
I’ve asked that this development be refused.
Any questions?
I'll be hopping on Reddit Ireland all day tomorrow for an "Ask Me Anything" session.
See you there 😉
