In addition, we find that power-sector CO₂ emissions are also concentrated among a handful of companies. For instance, roughly 30% of CO₂ emissions from coal-fired power plants are attributable to plants owned by ten companies, and more than half of total CO₂ emissions come from just 50 companies.

We find that the potential for stranded assets is highly concentrated among a small number of companies. If these mitigation pathways are realized, just ten companies would hold around a quarter of all power-sector stranded assets (~$0.5 trillion USD, assuming most costs are passed through).

Excited to share a few updates. First, our new study was published in #NatureSustainability a couple of weeks ago and quantifies the financial risks faced by fossil-fuel power-plant operators under different climate-mitigation pathways, while identifying the companies that own those assets.
