Interesting that staff in South Cambridge DC received the same salary while working four days instead of five. The £371,500 annual savings came not from cutting salaries but from less staff attrition (over work stress) and less reliance on costly agency workers.

Delegation to officers will rob the community of its minimal rights to raise issues at the planning committee & remove any meaningful way for councillors to exercise their fundamental constitutional role of offering democratic oversight, warns the TCPA's Hugh Ellis.

Taking Thames Water back into public ownership would cost the government nothing and could be reinvested into infrastructure under a 'bail in' provision
