Picture of Hind Rajab

RIP Hind Rajab.

Today is one year on since this little six year old was killed (my daughter's age) - and then so were the two brave medics who came to rescue her, as agreed by the IDF, as she cowered in her family car with her family dead around her.

I will never forget this story.

The conversation around the climate crisis isn’t to change or not to change – change is coming for us whether we’re ready or not. Time for leaders to take their heads out of the sand - we need to decarbonise, fast, and make our communities resilient. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

UK Minister Lisa Nandy rejects calls for England to boycott Afghanistan cricket match.

Says cancelling would “deny sports fans the opportunity that they love”.

Taliban banned women from public spaces, gyms, parks, hairdressing salons.

This week, the right basically gave up the territory on patriotism. From the mainstream right to the furthest extreme, it encouraged a foreign billionaire as he joked about invading the country and actively tried to undermine its democratic process.

How our democracy has been hijacked by corporations and wealthy elites The only effective remedy is to ban all private donations, or bribes, to political parties.

The rich bribe politicians, disguised as donations, to get their way, limit public choices.

50 families hold more wealth than half of the UK population.

Top fifth have 63% of wealth. Bottom 50%, 5%.

Make giving/receiving political donations a criminal offence.

Government unveils plan to reduce NHS waiting list backlog The government pledged to cut the list of patients waiting more than 18 weeks for treatment in England by nearly half a million over the next year.

Questions for Starmer:

1) where do you think staff in the private sector come from? (Spoiler, it's from the NHS)

2) why would we invest in the private sector as a preference to investing directly in the NHS?

Deal between NHS and independent sector to cut NHS waiting lists New agreement struck between NHS and independent sector to help tackle waiting lists and give patients greater choice

There is NO spare capacity in the private sector.

It is a CHOICE.

Invest and build up the NHS, OR invest on and build up the private sector.

Labour have chosen the private sector.

New analysis: most care homes closed by industry regulator are run A new analysis led by researchers at the University of Oxford and funded by the Nuffield Foundation has found that virtually all care homes forced to close in England by the Care Quality Commission

Can't end England's social care crisis without ending privatisation.

2011-2023: 804 out of 816 homes closed by regulator were for-profit homes.

30%-40% of public money vanishes in profits.

Low staffing/wages, lack of investment, regulation/safety breaches, poor care.
