NEW: Lawmakers defeated a bill to create surveillance systems on the Maine Turnpike. We hope lawmakers continue working with transportation safety experts to find other solutions that will keep our roads – and our right to move freely – safe.
Communities are safest when all residents can trust that a call for help will result in help – not deportation. This proposal would prevent local resources from being weaponized against our immigrant neighbors in federal operations.
Simply using the internet shouldn't be a loophole for the government to bypass the Fourth Amendment. Maine needs LD 1822 to protect the Fourth Amendment, freedom of movement, reproductive rights, and immigrants' safety.
