Great point
The stereotype being the belief that states are able to commit worse crimes than non state actors?
Good point!
Again, I’ve granted that there are edge cases. I disagree that the IRGC is adequately described as a terrorist organization but see why people make the argument.
No
most measured blue sky leftoid
now you’re being pedantic
There are edge cases. The IDF is not one
Do you think the IDF is like the IRGC?
Maybe!
that’s right
Thanks
I think this is a good counter example. The Taliban clearly have used terrorist tactics to get into power (as have the early Zionists!) though I think calling the Taliban government a terrorist organization would obscure more than it would illuminate.
kind of homophobic?
does a scary clown inflict terror?
is a scary clown a terrorist?
unironically yes
that’s a very broad definition that would include scary clowns and a leftist demonstrator in front a nazi’s house. I think you should narrow it down a bit
my point is that terrorist organizations are different from state
is every state that commits war crimes a terrorist organization
Die schlausten amis in den mentions
i think it’s useful to distinguish states from non-state actors from an analytical standpoint. this is not a moral judgement
you introduced russia? i am agreeing with you
how do you define “terrorist”
yes, for the most part. i think defining all war crimes as terrorism or all states committing war crimes as terrorist organizations is not helpful from an analytical standpoint at all. it obscures more than it illuminates. this is, again, not a moral judgement.
yes. that is not a moral judgement. states have committed much worse atrocities than terrorist groups throughout history.
what makes you think that
i didn’t say that
i don’t think I said that I think you’re making that up
yeah russia is also a state, that’s correct
